And the barbarians shewed us uncommon humanity: for they kindled a fire and took us all in, because of the present rain, and of the cold.
Then Peter filled with the holy Spirit said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, if we are this day examined about the benefit done to the impotent man, by what means he is cured, be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, but whom God hath raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole.
But I say unto you my hearers, Love your enemies, do good to them that hate you, bless them that curse you, and pray for them that abuse you;
but I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that abuse you and persecute you;
Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ hath received us, to the glory of God.
tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgiveth you.
"I desire mercy rather than sacrifice:" for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.
Then his lord called for him again, and said to him, Thou wicked slave, I forgave thee all that vast debt at thy request, and oughtest not thou to have had compassion on thy fellow-servant, even as I had on thee?
Which now of these three dost thou think was neighbor to him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that took pity on him. Therefore said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou in like manner.
Take heed to yourselves: if thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times a day, and seven times in a day return to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
Now we that are strong, ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves: but let every one of us please our neighbor for his good, to his edification.
Finally, my beloved, be unanimous, be sympathizing, love as brethren, be compassionate, be courteous:
being in every thing enriched to all liberality, which produceth through us thanksgiving to God. For the ministration of this service not only supplieth the wants of the saints, but aboundeth also, through many thanksgivings, to the glory of God. (While from the experience of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection to the gospel of Christ, and the liberality of your communication to them, and to all men.)
And let us not be weary in doing good: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. And therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, but especially to those who are of the houshold of faith.
to be rich in good works, to be ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
But to do good and to communicate forget not; for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
And to this giving all diligence, add to your faith fortitude; and to fortitude knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience piety; and to piety brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection charity.
