A sound of uproar from the city!
A voice from the temple—
the voice of the Lord,

I will not look on you with pity or spare you,
but I will punish you for your ways
and for your detestable practices within you.
Then you will know that I am Yahweh.”

So the Lord repaid me
according to my righteousness,
according to my cleanness in His sight.
The Lord rewarded me

“Yes, there is a reward for the righteous!
There is a God who judges on earth!”
The wicked man earns an empty wage,
but the one who sows righteousness, a true reward.
Kindness to the poor is a loan to the Lord,
and He will give a reward to the lender.

and let her works praise her at the city gates.

And they will be called the Holy People,

and you will be called Cared For,
A City Not Deserted.
This is what the Lord says:
Keep your voice from weeping
and your eyes from tears,
for the reward for your work will come—
this is the Lord’s declaration—
and your children will return from the enemy’s land.
Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do what is good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is gracious to the ungrateful and evil.
But as it is written:
What eye did not see and ear did not hear,
and what never entered the human mind—
God prepared this for those who love Him. Now God has revealed these things to us by the Spirit, for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works—this person will be blessed in what he does.

There was a man in the country of Uz named Job. He was a man of perfect integrity, who feared God and turned away from evil.
Now when Job’s three friends—Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite—heard about all this adversity that had happened to him, each of them came from his home. They met together to go and sympathize with him and comfort him. When they looked from a distance, they could barely recognize him. They wept aloud, and each man tore his robe and threw dust into the air and on his head. Then they sat on the ground with him seven days and nights, but no one spoke a word to him because they saw that his suffering was very intense.

why should I labor in vain?
If I wash myself with snow,
and cleanse my hands with lye,
then You dip me in a pit of mud,

I have spent my strength for nothing and futility;
yet my vindication is with the Lord,

Are You not from eternity, Yahweh my God?
My Holy One, You will not die.
Lord, You appointed them to execute judgment;
my Rock, You destined them to punish us.
Your eyes are too pure to look on evil,
and You cannot tolerate wrongdoing.
So why do You tolerate those who are treacherous?
Why are You silent
while one who is wicked swallows up
one who is more righteous than himself?
Those who are persecuted for righteousness are blessed,
for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
