But Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests: but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the joint heirs of the same promise.
All these died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and embraced them, and confest that they were strangers and sojourners on the earth.
Then answered Peter and said to him, Behold we have forsaken all, and followed thee. What shall we have therefore?
But they now desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for he hath prepared a city for them.
And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning in fear:
who mind earthly things) For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ,
And truly if they had been mindful of that from which they came out, they might have had opportunity to return.
That ye may be blameless and simple, the sons of God, unrebukable, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world,
I have given them thy word, and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly desires,
Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break thro' and steal:
Sell what ye have and give alms: provide yourselves purses which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
If ye then are risen with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ sitteth at the right-hand of God. Set your affections on the things above, not the things on the earth.
Ye cannot serve God and Mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take not thought for your life, what ye shall eat, nor for the body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon, with our house which is from heaven: If being clothed, we shall not be found naked.read more.
For we who are in this tabernacle groan, being burdened; not that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that what is mortal may be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us to this very thing is God, who hath also given us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we always behave undauntedly; knowing that while we are sojourning in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight.) We behave undauntedly, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and present with the Lord.
