But beware of men; for they will deliver you to the councils, and scourge you in their synagogues.
Wherefore behold I send to you prophets, and wise-men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city:
Then shall they deliver you to be afflicted, and shall kill you; and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
But ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolk, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated by all men for my names sake.
Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith; and that we must through many tribulations enter into the kingdom of God.
Yea and all that are resolved to live godly in Christ Jesus, shall suffer persecution.
This also is of God. For to you it is given, with regard to Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him:
And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
Fear none of those things which thou art about to suffer: behold the devil is about to cast some of you into prison that ye may be tried, and ye shall have affliction ten days: Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.
(As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long, we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.)
Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he looked off unto the recompence of reward.
And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold till the next day: for it was now evening.

Beside the things which are from without, that which rusheth upon me daily, the care of all the churches. Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is offended, and I burn not?

Wherein they think it strange, that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot,
But call ye to mind the former days, in which, after ye were inlightened, ye endured so great a conflict of sufferings: Partly being made a gazing-stock both by reproaches and afflictions; partly being partakers with them who were so used. For ye sympathized with my bonds, and received with joy the spoiling of your goods, knowing that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.
Happy are they who are persecuted for righteousness sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Happy are ye when men shall revile and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad; for great is your reward in heaven; for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.
And lifting up his eyes on his disciples, he said, Happy are ye poor: for your's is the kingdom of God. Happy are ye that hunger now; for ye shall be satisfied: happy are ye that weep now; for ye shall laugh. Happy are ye when men shall hate you, and shall separate you from their company, and shall revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.read more.
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy; for behold your reward is great in heaven; for in like manner did their fathers to the prophets.
And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
Therefore be not thou ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel, according to the power of God, Who hath saved and called us with an holy calling,
For this is thank worthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing.
Beloved, wonder not at the burning which is among you, which is for your trial, as if some strange thing befell you: But as ye partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, that when his glory shall be revealed, ye may likewise rejoice with exceeding great joy. If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil-spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.read more.
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a meddler in other mens matters, Yet if any suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
If ye endure chastning, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he, whom his father chastneth not?
If ye were of the world, the world would love its own; but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
I have given them thy word, and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
And if children, then heirs, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ: if we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.
From henceforth let none trouble me; for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.
So that we ourselves glory of you in the churches of God, for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and sufferings which ye endure: A manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be accounted, worthy of the kingdom of God; for which also ye suffer.
Now all chastning for the present is assuredly not joyous, but grievous; yet afterwards it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness to them that are exercised thereby.
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, tho' now for a little while (if need be) ye are in heaviness thro' manifold temptations. That the trial of your faith, which is much more precious than gold, (that perisheth, tho' it be tried with fire) may be found unto praise, and honour, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our body.
Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh that which is behind of the sufferings of Christ for his body, which is the church:
For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
Save that the Holy Ghost testifieth to me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me. But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life precious to myself, so I may finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
For I think God hath set forth us the apostles last, as appointed to death; for we are made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men. being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and off-scouring of all things to this day.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and God of all comfort, Who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them who are in any affliction, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our comfort also aboundeth through Christ.
