Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he reply to them, saying, For as much as ye have not done it to one of the least of these, neither have ye done it to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
Then he spake also this parable to certain persons, who had confidence in themselves, that they were righteous, and despised others:
For if we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no more sacrifice for sins remaineth; but a certain terrible expectation of judgment, and a burning indignation, ready to devour these enemies.
For it had been better for them never to have been acquainted with the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to have turned aside from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But the true proverb is verified in them, The dog hath returned to his own vomit; and the sow which was washed to its wallowing in the mire.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, faithful is he and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
For when they say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction rusheth upon them, as travail on a woman with child, and they shall in no wise escape.
And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it also be in the days of the coming of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the deluge came, and destroyed them all. Charge the rich in this world not to be lifted up with pride, nor to trust on the stability of wealth, but on the living God, who giveth us richly all things for our enjoyment;
