'Faith' in the Bible
And the bramble said to the trees, 'If in good faith you are anointing me king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade; but if not, let fire come out of the bramble and devour the cedars of Lebanon.'
"Now therefore, if you acted in good faith and honor when you made Abim'elech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubba'al and his house, and have done to him as his deeds deserved--
if you then have acted in good faith and honor with Jerubba'al and with his house this day, then rejoice in Abim'elech, and let him also rejoice in you;
Behold, his soul is puffed up, it is not upright within him: but the just shall live by his faith.
But if God so clothe the herbage of the field, which is to-day, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, will he not much rather you, O ye of little faith?
And when Jesus heard it, he wondered, and said to those who followed, Verily I say unto you, Not even in Israel have I found so great faith.
And he says to them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then, having arisen, he rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, laid upon a bed; and Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, Be of good courage, child; thy sins are forgiven.
But Jesus turning and seeing her, said, Be of good courage, daughter; thy faith has healed thee. And the woman was healed from that hour.
Then he touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith, be it unto you.
And immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught hold of him, and says to him, O thou of little faith, why didst thou doubt?
Then Jesus answering said to her, O woman, thy faith is great. Be it to thee as thou desirest. And her daughter was healed from that hour.
And Jesus knowing it, said, Why reason ye among yourselves, O ye of little faith, because ye have taken no bread?
And he says to them, Because of your unbelief; for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say to this mountain, Be transported hence there, and it shall transport itself; and nothing shall be impossible to you.
And Jesus answering said to them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and do not doubt, not only shall ye do what is done to the fig-tree, but even if ye should say to this mountain, Be thou taken away and be thou cast into the sea, it shall come to pass.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye pay tithes of mint and anise and cummin, and ye have left aside the weightier matters of the law, judgment and mercy and faith: these ye ought to have done and not have left those aside.
But Jesus, seeing their faith, says to the paralytic, Child, thy sins are forgiven thee.
And he said to them, Why are ye thus fearful? how is it ye have not faith?
And he said to her, Daughter, thy faith has healed thee; go in peace, and be well of thy scourge.
And Jesus said to him, Go, thy faith has healed thee. And he saw immediately, and followed him in the way.
And Jesus answering says to them, Have faith in God.
And seeing their faith, he said, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.
And Jesus hearing this wondered at him, and turning to the crowd following him said, I say to you, Not even in Israel have I found so great faith.
And he said to the woman, Thy faith has saved thee; go in peace.
And he said to them, Where is your faith? And, being afraid, they were astonished, saying to one another, Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?
And he said to her, Be of good courage, daughter; thy faith has healed thee; go in peace.
But if God thus clothe the grass, which to-day is in the field and to-morrow is cast into the oven, how much rather you, O ye of little faith?
And the apostles said to the Lord, Give more faith to us.
But the Lord said, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye had said to this sycamine tree, Be thou rooted up, and be thou planted in the sea, and it would have obeyed you.
And he said to him, Rise up and go thy way: thy faith has made thee well.
I say unto you that he will avenge them speedily. But when the Son of man comes, shall he indeed find faith on the earth?
And Jesus said to him, See: thy faith has healed thee.
but I have besought for thee that thy faith fail not; and thou, when once thou hast been restored, confirm thy brethren.
And, by faith in his name, his name has made this man strong whom ye behold and know; and the faith which is by him has given him this complete soundness in the presence of you all.
And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch,
And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was very greatly multiplied, and a great crowd of the priests obeyed the faith.
for he was a good man and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith; and a large crowd of people were added to the Lord.
But Elymas the magician (for so his name is by interpretation) opposed them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith.
This man heard Paul speaking, who, fixing his eyes on him, and seeing that he had faith to be healed,
establishing the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to abide in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.
And having arrived, and having brought together the assembly, they related to them all that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith to the nations.
and put no difference between us and them, having purified their hearts by faith.
The assemblies therefore were confirmed in the faith, and increased in number every day.
testifying to both Jews and Greeks repentance towards God, and faith towards our Lord Jesus Christ.
And after certain days, Felix having arrived with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jewess, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive remission of sins and inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me.
by whom we have received grace and apostleship in behalf of his name, for obedience of faith among all the nations,
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is proclaimed in the whole world.
that is, to have mutual comfort among you, each by the faith which is in the other, both yours and mine.
for righteousness of God is revealed therein, on the principle of faith, to faith: according as it is written, But the just shall live by faith.
For what? if some have not believed, shall their unbelief make the faith of God of none effect?
righteousness of God by faith of Jesus Christ towards all,and upon all those who believe: for there is no difference;
whom God has set forth a mercy-seat, through faith in his blood, for the shewing forth of his righteousness, in respect of the passing by the sins that had taken place before, through the forbearance of God;
for the shewing forth of his righteousness in the present time, so that he should be just, and justify him that is of the faith of Jesus.
Where then is boasting? It has been excluded. By what law? of works? Nay, but by law of faith;
for we reckon that a man is justified by faith, without works of law.
since indeed it is one God who shall justify the circumcision on the principle of faith, and uncircumcision by faith.
Do we then make void law by faith? Far be the thought: no, but we establish law.
but to him who does not work, but believes on him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness.
Does this blessedness then rest on the circumcision, or also on the uncircumcision? For we say that faith has been reckoned to Abraham as righteousness.
And he received the sign of circumcision as seal of the righteousness of faith which he had being in uncircumcision, that he might be the father of all them that believe being in uncircumcision, that righteousness might be reckoned to them also;
and father of circumcision, not only to those who are of the circumcision, but to those also who walk in the steps of the faith, during uncircumcision, of our father Abraham.
For it was not by law that the promise was to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world, but by righteousness of faith.
For if they which are of law be heirs, faith is made vain, and the promise made of no effect.
Therefore it is on the principle of faith, that it might be according to grace, in order to the promise being sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of Abraham's faith, who is father of us all,
and not being weak in faith, he considered not his own body already become dead, being about a hundred years old, and the deadening of Sarah's womb,
and hesitated not at the promise of God through unbelief; but found strength in faith, giving glory to God;
Therefore having been justified on the principle of faith, we have peace towards God through our Lord Jesus Christ;
by whom we have also access by faith into this favour in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God.
What then shall we say? That they of the nations, who did not follow after righteousness, have attained righteousness, but the righteousness that is on the principle of faith.
Wherefore? Because it was not on the principle of faith, but as of works. They have stumbled at the stumblingstone,
But the righteousness of faith speaks thus: Do not say in thine heart, Who shall ascend to the heavens? that is, to bring Christ down;
But what says it? The word is near thee, in thy mouth and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach:
So faith then is by a report, but the report by God's word.
Right: they have been broken out through unbelief, and thou standest through faith. Be not high-minded, but fear:
For I say, through the grace which has been given to me, to every one that is among you, not to have high thoughts above what he should think; but to think so as to be wise, as God has dealt to each a measure of faith.
But having different gifts, according to the grace which has been given to us, whether it be prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
Now him that is weak in the faith receive, not to the determining of questions of reasoning.
Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Blessed is he who does not judge himself in what he allows.
But he that doubts, if he eat, is condemned; because it is not of faith; but whatever is not of faith is sin.
but which has now been made manifest, and by prophetic scriptures, according to commandment of the eternal God, made known for obedience of faith to all the nations --
that your faith might not stand in men's wisdom, but in God's power.
and to a different one faith, in the power of the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healing in the power of the same Spirit;
And if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
And now abide faith, hope, love; these three things; and the greater of these is love.
but if Christ is not raised, then, indeed, vain also is our preaching, and vain also your faith.
but if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
Be vigilant; stand fast in the faith; quit yourselves like men; be strong.
Not that we rule over your faith, but are fellow-workmen of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
And having the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, I have believed, therefore have I spoken; we also believe, therefore also we speak;
(for we walk by faith, not by sight;)
but even as ye abound in every way, in faith, and word, and knowledge, and all diligence, and in love from you to us, that ye may abound in this grace also.
not boasting out of measure in other people's labours, but having hope, your faith increasing, to be enlarged amongst you, according to our rule, yet more abundantly
examine your own selves if ye be in the faith; prove your own selves: do ye not recognise yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you, unless indeed ye be reprobates?
only they were hearing that he who persecuted us formerly now announces the glad tidings of the faith which formerly he ravaged:
but knowing that a man is not justified on the principle of works of law nor but by the faith of Jesus Christ, we also have believed on Christ Jesus, that we might be justified on the principle of the faith of Christ; and not of works of law; because on the principle of works of law no flesh shall be justified.
I am crucified with Christ, and no longer live, I, but Christ lives in me; but in that I now live in flesh, I live by faith, the faith of the Son of God, who has loved me and given himself for me.
This only I wish to learn of you, Have ye received the Spirit on the principle of works of law, or of the report of faith?
He therefore who ministers to you the Spirit, and works miracles among you, is it on the principle of works of law, or of the report of faith?
Know then that they that are on the principle of faith, these are Abraham's sons;
