Paul Sends Timothy To Thessalonica
1 Being therefore impatient to hear of you, we judg'd it proper to stay at Athens alone, and send you our brother Timothy,
1 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;
1 Therefore (A)when we could endure it no longer, we thought it best to be left behind at (B)Athens alone,
1 Therefore, when we could no longer stand it, we thought it was better to be left alone in Athens.(A)
1 Therefore, when we could stand it no longer, we decided to remain alone in Athens
2 a minister of God, and our collegue in preaching the gospel of Christ, that by establishing you in the faith, and by his exhortations,
2 And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
2 and we sent (C)Timothy, our brother and God’s fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith,
2 And we sent Timothy,(B) our brother and God’s coworker(a) in the gospel of Christ,(C) to strengthen and encourage you concerning your faith,
2 and send Timothy, our brother who works with us for God in the gospel of the Messiah, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith,
3 none of you might be stagger'd by these persecutions: for you know that we are destin'd to suffer.
3 That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.
3 so that no one would be (a)disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that (D)we have been destined for this.
3 so that no one will be shaken by these persecutions. For you yourselves know that we are appointed to(b) this.
3 so that no one would be shaken by these persecutions, for which you are aware that we were destined.
4 and even when we were with you, we foretold you, that we should be persecuted, as you know it happen'd.
4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
4 For indeed when we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were going to suffer affliction; (b)(E)and so it came to pass, (c)as you know.
4 In fact, when we were with you, we told you previously that we were going to suffer persecution, and as you know, it happened.
4 In fact, when we were with you, we told you ahead of time that we were going to suffer persecution. And as you know, that is what happened.
5 not being able therefore to wait any longer, I sent Timothy to know the state of your faith, for fear the tempter should have seduc'd you, and all our labour have prov'd abortive.
5 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
5 For this reason, (F)when I could endure it no longer, I also (G)sent to (d)find out about your faith, for fear that (H)the tempter might have tempted you, and (I)our labor would be in vain.
5 For this reason, when I could no longer stand it, I also sent him to find out about your faith, fearing that the tempter had tempted you and that our labor might be for nothing.
5 But when I could stand it no longer, I sent Timothy to find out about your faith. I was afraid that the tempter had tempted you in some way, and that our work had been a waste of time.
Timothy's Positive Report
6 but Timothy, upon his arrival here from you, brings us the agreeable news of the perseverance of your faith and charity, that you always make honourable mention of us, and that you desire to see us as ardently as we do to see you.
6 But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
6 But now that (J)Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us good news of (K)your faith and love, and that you always (L)think kindly of us, longing to see us just as we also long to see you,
6 But now Timothy has come to us(D) from you and brought us good news about your faith and love and reported that you always have good memories of us, wanting to see us, as we also want to see you.(E)
6 But Timothy has just now returned from visiting you and has told us the good news about your faith and love. He also told us that you always have fond memories of us and want to see us, just as we want to see you.
7 Thus, my brethren, your conduct has given us great consolation, under all our persecutions and distress.
7 Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:
7 for this reason, brethren, in all our distress and affliction we were comforted about you through your faith;
7 Therefore, brothers, in all our distress and persecution, we were encouraged about you through your faith.
7 That's why, brothers, in all our distress and persecution we have been encouraged about you by your faith.
9 how can I be sufficiently thankful to God upon your account, for all the joy, which by your means we have been affected with,
9 For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
9 For (N)what thanks can we render to God for you in return for all the joy with which we rejoice before our God on your account,
9 How can we thank God for you in return for all the joy(G) we experience before our God because of you,
9 How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy that we have in God's presence because of you?
10 whilst night and day we make our ardent requests to him, that we may once more be present with you, that nothing may be wanting to the perfection of your faith?
10 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
10 as we (O)night and day keep praying most earnestly that we may (P)see your face, and may (Q)complete what is lacking in your faith?
10 as we pray very earnestly night and day to see you face to face(H) and to complete what is lacking in your faith?(I)
10 We pray very hard night and day that we may see you again face to face, so that we may equip you with whatever is lacking in your faith.
Prayer For The Church
12 may the Lord make you increase and abound in mutual love, in love towards all men, as we do towards you:
12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
12 and may the Lord cause you to increase and (V)abound in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you;
12 And may the Lord cause you to increase and overflow with love(L) for one another(M) and for everyone, just as we also do for you.
12 May the Lord greatly increase your love for each other and for all people, just as we love you.
13 that by the sanctity of your affections, you may stand unreprov'd in the presence of God our father, when our Lord Jesus Christ shall come with all his holy angels.
13 To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
13 so that He may (W)establish your hearts (X)without blame in holiness before (Y)our God and Father at the (e)(Z)coming of our Lord Jesus (AA)with all His (f)saints.
13 May He make your hearts blameless(N) in holiness(O) before our God and Father at the coming(P) of our Lord(Q) Jesus with all His saints. Amen.(c)
13 Then your hearts will be strong, blameless, and holy in the presence of God, who is our Father, when our Lord Jesus appears with all his saints.
