Timothy's Spiritual Heritage

2 I render thanks to God, the God of my fathers whom I worship with a pure conscience, as I mention you constantly in my prayers.

2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 To (E)Timothy, my beloved (b)(F)son: (G)Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 To Timothy, my dearly loved son.Grace, mercy, and peace(D) from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 To: Timothy, my dear child. May grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Messiah Jesus our Lord be yours!

3 When I recall the tears you shed when we parted, I long by night and day to see you again. That would fill me with joy,

3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;

3 (H)I thank God, whom I (I)serve with a (J)clear conscience (c)the way my forefathers did, (K)as I constantly remember you in my (d)prayers night and day,

3 I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience(E) as my ancestors did, when I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day.(F)

3 I constantly thank my God whom I serve with a clear conscience, as my ancestors did when I remember you in my prayers night and day,

4 for I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, as it dwells (I feel sure) in yourself.

4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

4 (L)longing to see you, (M)even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy.

4 Remembering your tears, I long to see you so that I may be filled with joy,

4 recalling your tears and longing to see you so that I can be filled with joy.

Paul's Advice For Timothy

5 Hence I would remind you to rekindle the divine gift which you received when my hands were laid upon you;

5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

5 (e)For I am mindful of the (N)sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and (O)your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.

5 clearly recalling your sincere faith(G) that first lived in your grandmother Lois, then in your mother Eunice,(H) and that I am convinced is in you also.

5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first existed in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced that this faith also exists in you.

6 for God has not given us a timid spirit but a spirit of power and love and discipline.

6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

6 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh (P)the gift of God which is in you through (Q)the laying on of my hands.

6 Therefore, I remind you to keep ablaze(a) the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands.(I)

6 For this reason, I am reminding you to fan into flames the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands.

Exhortation To Share Paul's Suffering

7 So do not be ashamed to testify to our Lord, and do not be ashamed of a prisoner of the Lord like me; join me in bearing suffering for the gospel by the power of the God

7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

7 For God has not given us a (R)spirit of (f)timidity, but of power and love and (g)discipline.

7 For God has not given us a spirit(b) of fearfulness,(J) but one of power,(K) love,(L) and sound judgment.

7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but one of power, love, and self-discipline.

8 who has saved us and called us to a life of consecration ??not for anything we have done but because he chose to do it himself, by the grace which he gave us ages ago in Christ Jesus

8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

8 Therefore (S)do not be ashamed of the (T)testimony of our Lord or of me (U)His prisoner, but join with me in (V)suffering for the (W)gospel according to the power of God,

8 So don’t be ashamed(M) of the testimony about our Lord,(N) or of me His prisoner.(O) Instead, share in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power(P) of God.

8 Therefore, never be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me, his prisoner. Instead, by God's power, join me in suffering for the sake of the gospel.

9 and has now revealed in the appearance of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has put down death and brought life and immortality to light by the gospel.

9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

9 who has (X)saved us and (Y)called us with a holy (Z)calling, (AA)not according to our works, but according to His own (AB)purpose and grace which was granted us in (AC)Christ Jesus from (AD)all eternity,

9 He has saved us and called uswith a holy calling,(Q)not according to our works,(R)but according to His own purpose(S) and grace,which was given to us in Christ Jesusbefore time began.

9 He saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our own accomplishments, but according to his own purpose and the grace that was given to us in the Messiah Jesus before time began.

10 Of that gospel I have been appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher,

10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

10 but (AE)now has been revealed by the (AF)appearing of our Savior (AG)Christ Jesus, who (AH)abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,

10 This has now been made evidentthrough the appearing(T) of our Savior Christ Jesus,who has abolished death(U)and has brought life(V) and immortality to lightthrough the gospel.

10 Now, however, that grace has been revealed through the coming of our Savior the Messiah Jesus, who has destroyed death and through the gospel has brought life and release from death into full view.

11 and this is why I am suffering. Still, I am not ashamed of it; I know whom I have trusted and I am certain he is able to keep what I have put into his hands till the great Day.

11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

11 (AI)for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher.

11 For this gospel I was appointed(W) a herald, apostle, and teacher,(c)

11 For the sake of this gospel I was appointed to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the gentiles.

Be Loyal To The Faith

12 Model yourself on the sound instruction you have had from me in the faith and love of Christ Jesus.

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

12 For this reason I also suffer these things, but (AJ)I am not ashamed; for I know (AK)whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to (AL)guard what I have entrusted to Him (h)until (AM)that day.

12 and that is why I suffer(X) these things. But I am not ashamed, because I know the One I have believed in and am persuaded that He is able to guard what has been entrusted to me(d)(Y) until that day.(Z)

12 That is why I suffer as I do. However, I am not ashamed, for I know the one in whom I have put my trust, and I'm convinced that he is able to protect what he has entrusted to me until the day that he comes.

13 Keep the great securities of your faith intact, by aid of the holy Spirit that dwells within us.

13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

13 (i)(AN)Retain the (AO)standard of (AP)sound words (AQ)which you have heard from me, in the (AR)faith and love which are in (AS)Christ Jesus.

13 Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching(AA) that you have heard from me,(AB) in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

13 Hold on to the pattern of healthy teachings that you have heard from me, along with the faith and love that are in the Messiah Jesus.

15 May the Lord show favour to the household of Onesiphorus, for many a time he braced me up; he was not ashamed of my imprisonment ??17 no, he made eager search for me when he reached Rome, and he found me
