As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.
Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,
And this is
just what I did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, but also when they were being put to death I cast my vote against them.
On the next day, their
rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem;
Upon hearing this, they entered into the temple
about daybreak and began to teach.Now when the high priest and his associates came, they called the Council together, even all the Senate of the sons of Israel, and sent orders to the prison house for them to be brought.
When it was day, the Council of elders of the people assembled, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him away to their council chamber, saying,
Brethren and fathers, hear my defense which I now offer to you.”
I could wish that I myself were accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh,
