And there occurred a great uproar; and some of the scribes of the Pharisaic party stood up and began to argue heatedly, saying, “ We find nothing wrong with this man; suppose a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?”
and I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’
“It happened when I returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, that I fell into a trance,
So the crowd of people who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered; others were saying, “ An angel has spoken to Him.”
When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, “ Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners?”
and I found him to be accused over questions about their Law, but under no accusation deserving death or imprisonment.
But I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death; and since he himself appealed to the Emperor, I decided to send him.

And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew dialect, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’
For this very night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood before me,
Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than He, are we?
