Saul's Conversion On The Damascus Road

1 And Saul, still breathing out threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the chief priest,

1 (A)Now (a)Saul, still (B)breathing (b)threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,

1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,

1 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing threats and murder against the disciples(A) of the Lord. He went to the high priest(B)

1 Meanwhile, still spewing death threats against the Lord's disciples, Saul went to the high priest.

2 and asked of him letters to Damascus, for the synagogues, that, if he should find any who were of this persuasion, either men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

2 and asked for (C)letters from him to (D)the synagogues at (E)Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to (F)the Way, both men and women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

2 and requested letters(C) from him to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any men or women who belonged to the Way,(D) he might bring them as prisoners to Jerusalem.

2 He asked him for letters to take with him to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any men or women belonging to the Way, he might bring them in chains to Jerusalem.

3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus; and suddenly there shone round about him a light from heaven.

3 As he was traveling, it happened that he was approaching Damascus, and (G)suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him;

3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:

3 As(E) he traveled and was nearing Damascus, a light from heaven suddenly flashed around him.

3 As Saul traveled along and was approaching Damascus, a light from heaven suddenly flashed around him.

4 And when he had fallen to the earth, he heard a voice saying to him: Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?

4 and (H)he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”

4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

4 Falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”

4 He dropped to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul! Why are you persecuting me?"

5 He answered: "Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said: I am Jesus, whom you persecute.

5 And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” And He said, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting,

5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

5 “Who are You, Lord?” he said.“I am Jesus, the One you are persecuting,” He replied.

5 He asked, "Who are you, Lord?"

6 But rise, and go into the city, and it shall be told you what you must do.

6 but get up and enter the city, and (I)it will be told you what you must do.”

6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

6 “But get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

6 The voice said, "I'm Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Now get up, go into the city, and you will be told what you are to do."

7 The men who journeyed with him stood amazed; for they heard a voice, but saw no one.

7 The men who traveled with him (J)stood speechless, (K)hearing the (c)voice but seeing no one.

7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.

7 The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the sound but seeing no one.(F)

7 Meanwhile, the men who were traveling with Saul were standing speechless, for they heard the voice but didn't see anyone.

8 And Saul arose from the earth, and when his eyes were opened, he saw no one; but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

8 Saul got up from the ground, and (L)though his eyes were open, he (d)could see nothing; and leading him by the hand, they brought him into (M)Damascus.

8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

8 Then Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing. So they took him by the hand and led him into Damascus.

8 When Saul got up off the ground, he couldn't see anything, even though his eyes were open. So his companions took him by the hand and led him into Damascus.

9 And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.

9 And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.

9 And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.

9 He was unable to see for three days and did not eat or drink.

9 For three days he couldn't see, and he didn't eat or drink anything.

11 And the Lord said to him: Arise, and go into the street that is called Straight, and in quire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus: for behold, he is praying;

11 And the Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for a man from (Q)Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying,

11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,

11 “Get up and go to the street called Straight,” the Lord said to him, “to the house of Judas, and ask for a man from Tarsus(H) named Saul, since he is praying there.

11 The Lord told him, "Get up, go to the street called Straight, and in the home of Judas look for a man from Tarsus named Saul. At this very moment he's praying.

12 and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias, coming in and laying his hand on him, that he may receive his sight.

12 and he has seen (e)in a vision a man named Ananias come in and (R)lay his hands on him, so that he might regain his sight.”

12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.

12 In a vision(a) he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and placing his hands on him so he can regain his sight.”(I)

12 He has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so he would see again."

13 But Ananias answered: Lord, I have heard from many of this man, how much evil he has done to thy saints in Jerusalem;

13 But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, (S)how much harm he did to (T)Your (f)saints at Jerusalem;

13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:

13 “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard from many people about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem.(J)

13 But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard many people tell how much evil this man has done to your saints in Jerusalem.

14 and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all that call upon thy name.

14 and here he (U)has authority from the chief priests to bind all who (V)call on Your name.”

14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.

14 And he has authority here from the chief priests to arrest all who call on Your name.”(K)

14 He is here with authority from the high priests to put in chains all who call on your name."

15 But the Lord said to him: Go; for he is a vessel chosen by me to bear my name before nations and kings, and the sons of Israel.

15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for (W)he is a chosen (g)instrument of Mine, to bear My name before (X)the Gentiles and (Y)kings and the sons of Israel;

15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

15 But the Lord said to him, “Go! For this man is My chosen instrument(L) to take My name to Gentiles,(M) kings, and the Israelites.(N)

15 But the Lord told him, "Go, because he's my chosen instrument to carry my name to unbelievers, to their kings, and to the descendants of Israel.

16 For I will show him what great things he must suffer for my name.

16 for (Z)I will show him how much he must suffer for My name’s sake.”

16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

16 I will show him how much he must suffer for My name!”(O)

16 since I'm going to show him how much he must suffer for my name's sake."

17 And Ananias went, and entered the house, and laying his hands on him, said: Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me, that you may receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

17 So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after (AA)laying his hands on him said, “(AB)Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be (AC)filled with the Holy Spirit.”

17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

17 So Ananias left and entered the house. Then he placed his hands on him and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road you were traveling, has sent me so that you can regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”(P)

17 So Ananias left and went to that house. He laid his hands on Saul and said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were traveling, has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

18 And immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he instantly received his sight; and he arose, and was immersed.

18 And immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he regained his sight, and he got up and was baptized;

18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

18 At once something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized.

18 All at once something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see again.

Saul Proclaims Jesus In Synagogues

19 And, having taken food, he was strengthened. And he was with the disciples in Damascus for some days;

19 and he took food and was strengthened. Now (AD)for several days he was with (AE)the disciples who were at Damascus,

19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.

19 And after taking some food, he regained his strength.(Q)Saul was with the disciples in Damascus for some days.

19 He got up and was baptized, and after eating some food, he felt strong again. For several days he stayed with the disciples in Damascus.

Saul Proclaims Christ In Damascus

20 and immediately he preached Jesus in the synagogues, that he is the Sou of God.

20 and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus (AF)in the synagogues, (h)saying, “He is (AG)the Son of God.”

20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

20 Immediately he began proclaiming Jesus in the synagogues: “He is the Son of God.”(R)

20 He immediately started to preach about Jesus in the synagogues, saying, "This is the Son of God."

21 And all that heard him were astonished, and said: Is not this he who destroyed in Jerusalem those that call on this name, and who has come hither for this purpose, that he might carry them bound to the chief priests?

21 All those hearing him continued to be amazed, and were saying, “Is this not he who in Jerusalem (AH)destroyed those who (AI)called on this name, and who had come here for the purpose of bringing them bound before the chief priests?”

21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?

21 But all who heard him were astounded and said, “Isn’t this the man who, in Jerusalem, was destroying those who called on this name and then came here for the purpose of taking them as prisoners to the chief priests?”(S)

21 Everyone who heard him was astonished and said, "This is the man who harassed those who were calling on Jesus' name in Jerusalem, isn't it? Didn't he come here to bring them in chains to the high priests?"

22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confuted the Jews that dwelt in Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.

22 But Saul kept increasing in strength and confounding the Jews who lived at Damascus by proving that this Jesus is the (i)Christ.

22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.

22 But Saul grew more capable and kept confounding the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that this One is the Messiah.

22 But Saul grew more and more persuasive, and continued to confound the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that this man was the Messiah.

Saul Escapes From Damascus

23 And, after many days had passed, the Jews determined to kill him.

23 When (AJ)many days had elapsed, (AK)the Jews plotted together to do away with him,

23 And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him:

23 After many days had passed, the Jews conspired to kill him,

23 After several days had gone by, the Jewish leaders plotted to murder Saul,

24 And their plot was made known to Saul; and they watched the gates day and night, that they might kill him.

24 but (AL)their plot became known to Saul. (AM)They were also watching the gates day and night so that they might put him to death;

24 But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.

24 but their plot became known to Saul. So they were watching the gates day and night intending to kill him,(T)

24 but their plot became known to him. They were even watching the gates day and night to murder him,

25 But the disciples took him by night, and let him down through the vail in a basket,

25 but his disciples took him by night and let him down through an opening in the wall, lowering him in a large basket.

25 Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket.

25 but his disciples took him by night and lowered him in a large basket through an opening in the wall.(U)

25 but his disciples took him one night and let him down through the city wall by lowering him in a basket.

Saul In Jerusalem

26 And having come to Jerusalem, he attempted to associate with the disciples: and they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple.

26 (AN)When he came to Jerusalem, he was trying to associate with the disciples; (j)but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.

26 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.

26 When he arrived in Jerusalem,(V) he tried to associate with the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, since they did not believe he was a disciple.

26 When Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they all were afraid of him because they wouldn't believe he was a disciple.

27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and told them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had boldly preached in Damascus in the name of Jesus.

27 But (AO)Barnabas took hold of him and brought him to the apostles and described to them how he had (AP)seen the Lord on the road, and that He had talked to him, and how (AQ)at Damascus he had (AR)spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus.

27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.

27 Barnabas, however, took him and brought him to the apostles and explained to them how Saul had seen the Lord on the road and that He had talked to him, and how in Damascus he had spoken boldly(W) in the name of Jesus.(X)

27 Barnabas, however, introduced Saul to the apostles, telling them how on the road Saul had seen the Lord, who had spoken to him, and how courageously he had spoken in the name of Jesus in Damascus.

28 And he was with them in Jerusalem, coming in and going out; and, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus,

28 And he was with them, (k)moving about freely in Jerusalem, (AS)speaking out boldly in the name of the Lord.

28 And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.

28 Saul was coming and going with them in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord.

28 So he freely circulated among them in Jerusalem, speaking courageously in the name of the Lord.

29 he conversed and reasoned with the Hellenists; but they under took to kill him.

29 And he was talking and arguing with the (l)(AT)Hellenistic Jews; but they were attempting to put him to death.

29 And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.

29 He conversed and debated with the Hellenistic Jews,(b) but they attempted to kill him.(Y)

29 He kept talking and arguing with the Hellenistic Jews, but they were bent on murdering him.

30 And when the brethren learned this, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him out to Tarsus.

30 But when (AU)the brethren learned of it, they brought him down to (AV)Caesarea and (AW)sent him away to (AX)Tarsus.

30 Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.

30 When the brothers found out, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.(Z)

30 When the brothers found out about the plot, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus.

31 Then the churches throughout the whole of Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, and were edified; and, walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.

31 So (AY)the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria (m)enjoyed peace, being built up; and going on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase.

31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

31 So the church(AA) throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace, being built up and walking in the fear of the Lord and in the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, and it increased in numbers.

31 So the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria enjoyed peace. As it continued to be built up and to live in the fear of the Lord, it kept increasing in numbers through the encouragement of the Holy Spirit.

Aeneas Healed

32 And it came to pass that Peter, passing through all the places, came down also to the saints that dwelt in Lydda.

32 Now as Peter was traveling through all those regions, he came down also to (AZ)the (n)saints who lived at (o)(BA)Lydda.

32 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda.

32 As Peter was traveling from place to place,(c) he also came down to the saints(AB) who lived in Lydda.(AC)

32 Now when Peter was going around among all of the disciples, he also visited the saints living in Lydda.

33 And he found there a certain man named Aeneas, who was a paralytic, and had kept his bed for eight years.

33 There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years, for he was paralyzed.

33 And there he found a certain man named AEneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.

33 There he found a man named Aeneas, who was paralyzed and had been bedridden for eight years.

33 There he found a man named Aeneas who was paralyzed and had been bedridden for eight years.

34 And Peter said to him: Aeneas, Jesus the Christ restores you to health; arise, and spread your bed for yourself. And he immediately arose;

34 Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; get up and make your bed.” Immediately he got up.

34 And Peter said unto him, AEneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.

34 Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and make your bed,”(d) and immediately he got up.(AD)

34 Peter told him, "Aeneas, Jesus the Messiah is healing you. Get up and put away your mat!" At once he got up,

35 and all that dwelt in Lydda and Saron saw him; and they turned to the Lord.

35 And all who lived at (p)(BB)Lydda and (BC)Sharon saw him, and they (BD)turned to the Lord.

35 And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.

35 So all who lived in Lydda and Sharon(AE) saw him and turned to the Lord.

35 and all the people who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord.

Dorcas Raised

36 Now there was in Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which name, when translated, is Dorcas. She was full of good works and deeds of charity which she did.

36 Now in (BE)Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which translated in Greek is called (q)Dorcas); this woman was abounding with deeds of kindness and charity which she continually did.

36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

36 In Joppa(AF) there was a disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas.(e) She was always doing good works(AG) and acts of charity.

36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas. She was known for her good actions and acts of charity that she was always doing.

37 And it came to pass, in those days, that she was taken sick, and died. And when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.

37 And it happened (r)at that time that she fell sick and died; and when they had washed her body, they laid it in an (BF)upper room.

37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.

37 In those days she became sick and died. After washing her, they placed her in a room upstairs.

37 At that time, she got sick and died. After they had washed her, they laid her in an upstairs room.

38 And as Lydda was near to Joppa, the disciples, having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, requesting him to make no delay in coming to them.

38 Since Lydda was near (BG)Joppa, (BH)the disciples, having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, imploring him, “Do not delay in coming to us.”

38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.

38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples heard that Peter was there and sent two men to him who begged him, “Don’t delay in coming with us.”

38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples heard that Peter was there and sent two men to him and begged him, "Come here quickly!"

39 Then Peter arose, and went with them; and when he had come, they brought him into the upper room; and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments that Dorcas made while she was with them.

39 So Peter arose and went with them. When he arrived, they brought him into the (BI)upper room; and all the (BJ)widows stood beside him, weeping and showing all the (s)tunics and garments that Dorcas used to make while she was with them.

39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

39 So Peter got up and went with them. When he arrived, they led him to the room upstairs. And all the widows approached him, weeping and showing him the robes and clothes that Dorcas had made while she was with them.

39 So Peter got up and went with them. When he arrived, they took him upstairs. All the widows gathered around Peter, crying and showing him all the shirts and coats Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

40 But Peter put them all out, and kneeled down and prayed; and turning to the body, he said: Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes; and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

40 But Peter (BK)sent them all out and (BL)knelt down and prayed, and turning to the body, he said, “(BM)Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

40 Then Peter sent them all out of the room. He knelt down, prayed, and turning toward the body said, “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes, saw Peter, and sat up.(AH)

40 Peter made them all go outside. After kneeling down, he prayed, turned to the body, and said, "Tabitha, get up!" She opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

41 And he gave her his hand, and raised her up. And when he had called in the saints and the widows, he presented her alive.

41 And he gave her his hand and raised her up; and calling (BN)the (t)saints and (BO)widows, he presented her alive.

41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.

41 He gave her his hand and helped her stand up. Then he called the saints and widows and presented her alive.

41 He extended his hand and helped her get up. Then he called the saints, including the widows, and gave her back to them alive.

42 And it was known throughout all Joppa, and many believed on the Lord.

42 It became known all over (BP)Joppa, and (BQ)many believed in the Lord.

42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.

42 This became known throughout Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.

42 What happened became known throughout Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.

43 And it came to pass, that he remained many days in Joppa with one Simon, a tanner.

43 And Peter stayed many days in (BR)Joppa with (BS)a tanner named Simon.

43 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.

43 And Peter stayed on many days in Joppa with Simon,(AI) a leather tanner.(f)

43 Meanwhile, Peter stayed in Joppa for several days with Simon, a leatherworker.
