¹³ And the Egyptians rigorously made the sons of Israel serve; ¹⁴ and embittered their lives with harsh service, in clay and in bricks, and in all manner of service in the field, - all their service, wherein they rigorously made them serve. ¹⁵ Then said the king of Egypt to the Hebrew midwives, - of whom, the name of the one was, Shiphrah, and, the name of the other Puah; -
