4 And Abram went according to which Jehovah spake to him, and Lot went with him: and Abram the son of . five years and seventy years in his coming out of Haran.

4 So Abram went forth as the Lord had spoken to him; and (G)Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran.(G)

4 So Abram left there, as the LORD had directed him, and Lot accompanied him. Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran.

5 And Abram will take Sand his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their riches which they acquired, and the souls which they acquired in Haran, and they came forth to go into the land of Canaan; and they shall come into the land of Canaan.

5 Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew, and all their (H)possessions which they had accumulated, and (I)the (e)persons which they had acquired in Haran, and they (f)set out for the land of Canaan; (J)thus they came to the land of Canaan.

5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated, and the people he had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan,

5 Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated, and the servants he had acquired while living in Haran. Then they set out to go to the land of Canaan. When they arrived in the land of Canaan,

6 And Abram shall pass over the land to the place Sichem, to the erect oak tree. And the Canaanite then in the land.

6 Abram passed through the land as far as the site of (K)Shechem, to the (g)oak of Moreh. Now the Canaanite was then in the land.

6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.

6 Abram passed through the land to the site of Shechem,(H) at the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land.

6 Abram traveled through the land to the place called Shechem, as far as the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land.

7 And Jehovah shall be seen to Abram, and will say, To thy seed will I give this land, and he will build there an altar to Jehovah, being seen to him.

7 The Lord (L)appeared to Abram and said, “(M)To your (h)descendants I will give this land.” So he built (N)an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your offspring.”(I) So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

7 Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "I'll give this land to your descendants." So Abram built an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

8 And he will remove from thence to the mountain from the cast of the house of God, and shall stretch forth his tent; Bethel from the sea, and Hai from the east, and he shall build there an altar to Jehovah, and will call upon the name of Jehovah.

8 Then he proceeded from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with (O)Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the Lord and (P)called upon the name of the Lord.

8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.

8 From there he moved on to the hill country east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. He built an altar to Yahweh there, and he called on the name of Yahweh.(J)

8 From there Abram traveled on to the hill country east of Bethel and set up his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD.

9 And Abram will remove, going and removing to the desert

9 Abram journeyed on, continuing toward (Q)the (i)Negev.

9 And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.

9 Then Abram journeyed by stages to the Negev.

9 Then Abram traveled on, continuing into the Negev.

Abram In Egypt

10 And there shall be a famine in the land; and Abram will go down to Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was strong in the land.

10 Now there was (R)a famine in the land; so Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was (S)severe in the land.

10 And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.

10 There was a famine in the land,(K) so Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine in the land was severe.

10 There was a famine in the land, so Abram went down to Egypt to live because the famine was so severe.

11 And it shall be when he came near to go to Egypt, he will say to Sarai his wife, Behold, now I knew that thou wert a fair woman to see.

11 It came about when he (j)came near to Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “See now, I know that you are a (k)(T)beautiful woman;

11 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:

11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “Look, I know what a beautiful woman you are.

11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he told his wife Sarai, "Look, I'm aware that you're a beautiful woman.

12 And it shall be when the Egyptians shall see thee, they shall say, This is his wife; and they will kill me, and thee they will permit to live.

12 (U)and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live.

12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.

12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ They will kill me but let you live.(L)

12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, "She is his wife.' Then they'll kill me, but allow you to live.

13 Say, now, thou my sister, that it shall be well to me because of thee, and my soul shall live by means of thee.

13 Please say that you are (V)my sister so that it may go well with me because of you, and that (l)(W)I may live on account of you.”

13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

13 Please say you’re my sister so it will go well for me because of you, and my life will be spared on your account.”

13 Please say that you are my sister, so things will go well for me for your sake. That way, you'll be saving my life."

14 And it shall be when Abram goes to Egypt, and the Egyptians will see the woman that she was very fair.

14 It came about when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians (m)saw that the woman was very beautiful.

14 And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.

14 When Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.

14 As Abram was entering Egypt, the Egyptians noticed how beautiful Sarai was.

15 And Pharaoh's rulers will see her, and will praise her to Pharaoh, and the woman shall be taken into Pharaoh's house.

15 Pharaoh’s officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh; and (X)the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.

15 The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.

15 Pharaoh’s officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh, so the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s household.

15 When Pharaoh's officials saw her, they brought her to the attention of Pharaoh and took the woman to Pharaoh's palace.

16 And he will do good to Abram on account of her; and there shall be to him sheep and oxen and he-asses, and servants and maids, and she-asses and camels.

16 Therefore (Y)he treated Abram well for her sake; and (n)(Z)gave him sheep and oxen and donkeys and male and female servants and female donkeys and camels.

16 And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.

16 He treated Abram well because of her, and Abram acquired flocks and herds, male and female donkeys, male and female slaves, and camels.

16 He treated Abram well because of her, so Abram acquired sheep, oxen, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels.

17 And Jehovah will touch Pharaoh with great strokes, and his house on account of Sarai, Abram's wife.

17 But the Lord (AA)struck Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.

17 And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.

17 But the Lord struck Pharaoh and his household with severe plagues because of Abram’s wife Sarai.(M)

17 But the LORD afflicted Pharaoh and his household with severe plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife.

18 And Pharaoh will call to Abram, and will say, What this thou didst to me? why didst thou not declare to me that she is thy wife?

18 Then Pharaoh called Abram and said, “(AB)What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?

18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?

18 So Pharaoh sent for Abram and said, “What have you done to me? Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?

18 Pharaoh summoned Abram and asked, "What have you done to me! Why didn't you tell me that she was your wife?

19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister and I shall take her to me for a wife? and now behold thy wife, take and go.

19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now then, (o)here is your wife, take her and go.”

19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.

19 Why did you say, ‘She’s my sister,’ so that I took her as my wife? Now, here is your wife. Take her and go!”

19 Why did you say, "She is my sister,' so that I took her as a wife for myself? Now, here is your wife! Take her and get out!"

20 And Pharaoh will command the men concerning him, and they will send him away, and his wife and all that is to him.

20 Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they (p)escorted him away, with his wife and all that belonged to him.

20 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

20 Then Pharaoh gave his men orders about him, and they sent him away with his wife and all he had.

20 So Pharaoh assigned men to Abram, and they escorted him, his wife, and all that he had out of the country.
