1 Now faith means we are confident of what we hope for, convinced of what we do not see.

1 Now faith is the (a)(A)assurance of things (b)(B)hoped for, the (c)conviction of (C)things not seen.

2 It was for this that the men of old won their record.

3 It is by faith we understand that the world was fashioned by the word of God, and thus the visible was made out of the invisible.

10 he was waiting for the City with its fixed foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

10 for he was looking for (AA)the city which has (AB)foundations, (AC)whose architect and builder is God.

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

11 It was by faith that even Sara got strength to conceive, bearing a son when she was past the age for it ??because she considered she could rely on Him who gave the promise.

11 By faith even (AD)Sarah herself received (j)ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him (AE)faithful who had promised.

11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

11 By faith even Sarah herself, when she was unable to have children, received power to conceive offspring, even though she was past the age, since she(f) considered that the One who had promised was faithful.(I)

11 By faith Sarah, even though she was old and barren, received the strength to conceive, because she was convinced that the one who had made the promise was faithful.

12 Thus a single man, though he was physically impotent, had issue in number like the stars in heaven, countless as the sand on the seashore.

13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

13 These all died in faith without having received the promises, but they saw them from a distance,(K) greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth.(L)

13 All these people died having faith. They did not receive the things that were promised, yet they saw them in the distant future and welcomed them, acknowledging that they were strangers and foreigners on earth.

14 Now people who speak in this way plainly show they are in search of a fatherland.

14 For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.

14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

15 If they thought of the land they have left behind, they would have time to go back,

19 It was by faith that Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in connexion with the future.

20 It was by faith that, when Jacob was dying, he blessed each of the sons of Joseph, bending in prayer over the head of his staff.
