Concluding Ethical Instructions

1 Let your love for the Brethren continue. :24 Give our greeting to all your Leaders, and to all Christ's People. Our friends from Italy send their greetings to you.

1 Let (A)love of the brethren continue.

1 Let brotherly love continue.

1 Let brotherly love(A) continue.

1 Let brotherly love continue.

2 Do not neglect to show hospitality; for, through being hospitable, men have all unawares entertained angels.

2 Do not neglect to (B)show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have (C)entertained angels without knowing it.

2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

2 Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it.(B)

2 Stop neglecting to show hospitality to strangers, for by showing hospitality some have had angels as their guests without being aware of it.

3 Remember the prisoners, as if you were their fellow-prisoners, and the oppressed, not forgetting that you also are still in the body.

3 (D)Remember (E)the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body.

3 Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.

3 Remember the prisoners, as though you were in prison with them, and the mistreated, as though you yourselves were suffering bodily.(a)

3 Continue to remember those in prison as if you were in prison with them, as well as those who are mistreated, since they also are only mortal.

4 Let marriage be honoured by all and the married life be pure; for God will judge those who are immoral and those who commit adultery.

4 (F)Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; (G)for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

4 Marriage must be respected by all, and the marriage bed kept undefiled, because God will judge immoral people and adulterers.(C)

4 Let marriage be kept honorable in every way, and the marriage bed undefiled. For God will judge those who commit sexual sins, especially those who commit adultery.

5 Do not let your conduct be ruled by the love of money. Be content with what you have, for God himself has said-- 'I will never forsake you, nor will I ever abandon you.'

5 Make sure that your character is (H)free from the love of money, (I)being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “(J)I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,”

5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

5 Your life should be free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for He Himself has said, I will never leave you or forsake you.(D)(b)

5 Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for God has said, "I will never leave you or abandon you."

6 Therefore we may say with confidence-- 'The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?'

6 so that we confidently say,(K)The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?”

6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

6 Therefore, we may boldly say:The Lord is my helper;I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?(E)(c)

6 Hence we can confidently say, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?"

7 Do not forget your Leaders, the men who told you God's Message. Recall the close of their lives, and imitate their faith.

7 Remember (L)those who led you, who spoke (M)the word of God to you; and considering the (a)result of their conduct, (N)imitate their faith.

7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

7 Remember your leaders who have spoken God’s word to you. As you carefully observe the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith.(F)

7 Remember your leaders, those who have spoken God's word to you. Think about the impact of their lives, and imitate their faith.

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and to-day--yes, and for ever!

8 (O)Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.(G)

8 Jesus, the Messiah, is the same yesterday and today and forever!

9 Do not let yourselves be carried away by the various novel forms of teaching. It is better to rely for spiritual strength upon the divine help, than upon regulations regarding food; for those whose lives are guided by such regulations have not found them of service.

9 (P)Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to (Q)be strengthened by grace, not by (R)foods, (S)through which those who (b)were so occupied were not benefited.

9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

9 Don’t be led astray by various kinds of strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be established by grace and not by foods, since those involved in them have not benefited.(H)

9 Stop being carried away by all kinds of unusual teachings, for it is good that the heart be strengthened by grace, not by food laws that have never helped those who follow them.

10 We are not without an altar; but it is one at which those who still worship in the Tabernacle have no right to eat.

10 We have an altar (T)from which those (U)who serve the (c)tabernacle have no right to eat.

10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

10 We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle do not have a right to eat.(I)

10 We have an altar, and those who serve in the tent have no right to eat at it.

11 The bodies of those animals whose blood is brought by the High Priest into the Sanctuary, as an offering for sin, are burnt outside the camp.

11 For (V)the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp.

11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.

11 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the most holy place by the high priest(J) as a sin offering are burned outside the camp.(K)

11 For the bodies of animals, whose blood is taken into the sanctuary by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp.

12 And so Jesus, also, to purify the People by his own blood, suffered outside the gate.

12 Therefore Jesus also, (W)that He might sanctify the people (X)through His own blood, suffered (Y)outside the gate.

12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

12 Therefore Jesus also suffered outside the gate,(L) so that He might sanctify(d) the people by His own blood.

12 That is why Jesus, in order to sanctify the people by his own blood, also suffered outside the city gate.

13 Therefore let us go out to him 'outside the camp,' bearing the same reproaches as he;

13 So, let us go out to Him outside the camp, (Z)bearing His reproach.

13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

13 Let us then go to Him outside the camp, bearing His disgrace.(M)

13 Therefore go to him outside the camp and endure the insults he endured.

14 for here we have no permanent city, but are looking for the City that is to be.

14 For here (AA)we do not have a lasting city, but we are seeking (AB)the city which is to come.

14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

14 For we do not have an enduring city here; instead, we seek the one to come.(N)

14 For here we have no permanent city but are looking for the one that is coming.

15 Through him let us offer, as our sacrifice, continual praise to God--an offering from lips that glorify his Name.

15 (AC)Through Him then, let us continually offer up a (AD)sacrifice of praise to God, that is, (AE)the fruit of lips that (d)give thanks to His name.

15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

15 Therefore, through Him let us continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips that confess His name.(O)

15 Therefore, through him let us always bring God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips that confess his name.

16 Never forget to do kindly acts and to share what you have with others, for such sacrifices are acceptable to God.

16 And do not neglect doing good and (AF)sharing, for (AG)with such sacrifices God is pleased.

16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

16 Don’t neglect to do what is good and to share, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.(P)

16 Do not neglect to do good and to be generous, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.

17 Obey your Leaders, and submit to their control, for they are watching over your souls, as men who will have to render an account, so that they may do it with joy, and not in sorrow. That would not be to your advantage.

17 (AH)Obey your leaders and submit to them, for (AI)they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. (e)Let them do this with joy and not (f)with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.

17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

17 Obey your leaders(e) and submit to them, for they keep watch(Q) over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

17 Continue to follow and be submissive to your leaders, since they are watching over your souls as those who will have to give a word of explanation. By doing this, you will be letting them carry out their duties joyfully, and not with grief, for that would be harmful for you.

18 Pray for us, for we are sure that our consciences are clear, since our wish is to be occupied with what is good.

18 (AJ)Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a (AK)good conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things.

18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

18 Pray for us; for we are convinced that we have a clear conscience, wanting to conduct ourselves honorably in everything.(R)

18 Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way.

19 And I the more earnestly ask for your prayers, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

19 And I urge you all the more to do this, (AL)so that I may be restored to you the sooner.

19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

19 And I especially urge you to pray(f) that I may be restored to you very soon.

19 I especially ask you to do this so that I may be brought back to you sooner.

Benediction

20 May God, the source of all peace, who brought back from the dead him who, 'by virtue of the blood that rendered valid the unchangeable Covenant, is the Great Shepherd of God's Sheep,' Jesus, our Lord--

20 Now (AM)the God of peace, who (AN)brought up from the dead the (AO)great Shepherd of the sheep (g)through (AP)the blood of the (AQ)eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord,

20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

21 (AR)equip you in every good thing to do His will, (AS)working in us that (AT)which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, (AU)to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

21 equip(g) you with all that is good to do His will, working in us what is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ. Glory belongs to Him forever and ever.(h)(U) Amen.

21 equip you with everything good to do his will, accomplishing in us what pleases him through Jesus, the Messiah. To him be glory forever and ever! Amen.
