God Will Have Compassion
2 But the more they were called, the more they went back, offering unto Idols, and censing Images.
2 As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.
2 The more (a)(C)they called them,The more they went from (b)them; They kept (D)sacrificing to the BaalsAnd (E)burning incense to idols.
2 The more they(a) called them,(b)(C)the more they(c) departed from Me.(d)They kept sacrificing to the Baals(D)and burning offerings to idols.(E)
2 The more I called out to them, the farther they fled from me; they sacrificed to Baals, burning incense to carved images.
3 I learned Ephraim to go, and bare them in mine arms, but they regarded not me that would have helped them.
3 I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them.
3 Yet it is I who taught Ephraim to walk,(c)I (F)took them in My arms; But they did not know that I (G)healed them.
3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk,(F)taking them(e) in My arms,(G)but they never knew that I healed them.(H)
3 Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk, supporting them by their arms, but they never knew that I was healing them.
4 I led them with cords of friendship, and with bands of love. I was even he, that laid the yoke upon their necks. I gave them their fodder myself,
4 I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.
4 I (H)led them with cords of a man, with bonds of love,And (I)I became to them as one who lifts the yoke from their jaws; And I bent down and (J)fed them.
4 I led them with human cords, with ropes of love.(I)To them I was like onewho eases the yoke from their jaws;(J)I bent down to give them food.(K)
4 I guided them with human kindness, with loving reins. I acted toward them like one who removes a yoke from their neck; I bent down and fed them.
5 that they should not go again into Egypt. And now is Assyria their king: for they would not turn unto me.
5 He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.
5 (d)They will not return to the land of Egypt; But Assyria—he will be (e)their kingBecause they (K)refused to return to Me.
5 Israel will not return to the land of Egyptand Assyria will be his king,(L)because they refused to repent.(M)
5 "They will not return to the land of Egypt; instead, the Assyrian will be their king, because they kept refusing to repent.
6 Therefore shall the sword begin in their cities, the store that they have laid up shall be destroyed and eaten up: and that because of their own imaginations.
6 And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels.
6 The (L)sword will whirl against (f)their cities,And will demolish (g)their gate barsAnd (M)consume them because of their (N)counsels.
6 A sword will whirl through his cities;(N)it will destroy and devour the bars of his gates,(f)(O)because of their schemes.(P)
6 The sword will fall on their cities, consuming and devouring their fortified gates, despite their planning.
7 My people hath no lust to turn unto me, their prophets lay the yoke upon them, but they ease them not of their burden.
7 And my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High, none at all would exalt him.
7 So My people are bent on (O)turning from Me.Though (h)they call (i)them to the One on high,None at all exalts Him.
7 My people are bent on turning from Me.(Q)Though they call to Him on high,He will not exalt them at all.
7 My people are determined to turn away from me; though they call to the Most High, no one is worshiping.
8 What great things have I given thee, O Ephraim? How faithfully have I defended thee, O Israel? Have I dealt with thee as with Adam? Or have I entreated thee like Zeboim? No, my heart is otherwise minded. Yea, my mercy is to fervent:
8 How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.
8 (P)How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I surrender you, O Israel? How can I (j)make you like (Q)Admah? How can I treat you like (R)Zeboiim? My heart is turned over within Me,(k)All My compassions are kindled.
8 How can I give you up, Ephraim?(R)How can I surrender you, Israel? How can I make you like Admah?(S)How can I treat you like Zeboiim?(T)I have had a change of heart; My compassion is stirred!
8 "How can I give up on you, Ephraim? I will deliver you, will I not, Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? I can't make you like Zeboim, can I? My heart stirs within me; my compassion also fans into flame!
9 therefore have I not turned me to destroy Ephraim in my wrathful displeasure. For I am God, and no man: I am even that holy one in the midst of thee, though I came not within the city.
9 I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.
9 I will (S)not execute My fierce anger;I will not destroy Ephraim (T)again. For (U)I am God and not man, the (V)Holy One in your midst,And I will not come in (l)wrath.
9 I will not vent the full fury of My anger;(U)I will not turn back to destroy Ephraim.(V)For I am God and not man,the Holy One among you;(W)I will not come in rage.(g)
9 I will not act in my anger; I will not return to destroy Ephraim, For I am God, and not a human the Holy One among you so I will not enter the city in anger.
10 The LORD roareth like a lion, that they may follow him. Yea, as a lion roareth he, that they may be afraid like the children of the sea:
10 They shall walk after the LORD: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west.
10 They will (W)walk after the Lord,He will (X)roar like a lion;Indeed He will roarAnd His sons will come (Y)trembling from the west.
10 They will follow the Lord;(X)He will roar like a lion.(Y)When He roars,His children will come trembling from the west.(Z)
10 They will go after the LORD, who will roar like a lion; and when he roars, the children will come trembling from the west.
11 that they may be scattered away from Egypt, as men scare birds: and frayed away, as doves used to be, from the Assyrians' land: and that because I would have them tarry at home, sayeth the LORD.
11 They shall tremble as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria: and I will place them in their houses, saith the LORD.
11 They will come trembling like birds from (Z)EgyptAnd like (AA)doves from the land of (AB)Assyria; And I will (AC)settle them in their houses, declares the Lord.
11 They will be roused like birds from Egyptand like doves(AA) from the land of Assyria.(AB)Then I will settle them in their homes.(AC)This is the Lord’s declaration.
11 Trembling like a bird, they will come out of Egypt, and as a dove from the land of Assyria; and I will settle them in their houses," declares the LORD.
Israel's History

12 Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.
12 (m)Ephraim surrounds Me with (AD)liesAnd the house of Israel with deceit;Judah is also unruly against God,Even against the Holy One who is faithful.
12 (h) Ephraim surrounds me with lies,(AD)the house of Israel, with deceit.Judah still wanders with Godand is faithful to the holy ones.(i)(j)
12 "Ephraim surrounds me with lies, and the house of Israel surrounds me with deceit, But Judah still rules with God, and remains faithful, along with the godly ones."
