1 Hear this, O thou house of Jacob; ye that are called by the name of Israel, and are come out of one stock with Judah; which swear by the name of the LORD, and bear witness by the God of Israel - but not with truth and right.
1 “(A)Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are named IsraelAnd who came forth from the (a)(B)loins of Judah,Who (C)swear by the name of the LordAnd invoke the God of Israel,But not in truth nor in (D)righteousness.
1 Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.
1 “Listen to this, house of Jacob—those who are called by the name Israeland have descended from(a) Judah,(A)who swear by the name of Yahweh(B)and declare the God of Israel, but not in truth or righteousness.
1 "Listen to this, house of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel, and who have come forth from Judah's loins; you who swear oaths in the name of the LORD and invoke the God of Israel but not in truth, nor in good faith.
2 Which are called free men of the holy city, as they that look for comfort in the God of Israel, whose name is the LORD of Hosts.
2 “For they call themselves after the (E)holy cityAnd (F)lean on the God of Israel; The Lord of hosts is His name.
2 For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name.
2 For they are named after the Holy City, and lean on the God of Israel;(C)His name is Yahweh of Hosts.
2 For they name themselves after the holy city, and rely on the God of Israel the LORD of the Heavenly Armies is his name.
3 The things that I showed you ever since the beginning: Have I not brought them to pass, immediately as they came out of my mouth, and declared them? And they are come?
3 “I (G)declared the former things long agoAnd they went forth from My mouth, and I proclaimed them.(H)Suddenly I acted, and they (I)came to pass.
3 I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.
3 I declared the past events long ago;they came out of My mouth; I proclaimed them.Suddenly I acted, and they occurred.
3 I foretold the former things long ago; it went forth from my mouth, and I disclosed them; Suddenly, I acted, and they came to pass.
4 Howbeit, I knew that thou art obstinate, and that thy neck hath an iron vein, and thy brow is of brass.
4 “Because I know that you are (b)(J)obstinate,And your (K)neck is an iron sinewAnd your (L)forehead bronze,
4 Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass;
4 Because I knew that you are obstinate, and because your neck is an iron sinew, and your forehead is bronze,
5 Nevertheless, I have ever since the beginning showed thee of things for to come, and declared them unto thee before they came to pass: that thou shouldest not say, "Mine Idol hath done it; my carved or cast image hath showed it."
5 Therefore I declared them to you long ago,Before (c)they took place I proclaimed them to you,So that you would not say, ‘My (M)idol has done them,And my graven image and my molten image have commanded them.’
5 I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them.
5 therefore I declared to you long ago.I announced it to you before it occurred,so you could not claim, ‘My idol caused them;my carved image and cast idol control them.’(E)
5 I told you these things long ago; I announced them to you before they happened so that you couldn't say, "My idol did them; my carved image or metal idol ordained them.'
6 Hear and consider all these things, whether it was ye that prophesied them: But as for me, I told thee before at the beginning, new and secret things that thou knewest not of.
6 “You have heard; look at all this. And you, will you not declare it?I proclaim to you (N)new things from this time,Even hidden things which you have not known.
6 Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them.
6 You have heard it. Observe it all. Will you not acknowledge it?From now on I will announce new things to you, hidden things that you have not known.(F)
6 "You have heard now look at them all! How can you not admit them? From now on, I'll make you hear new things, hidden things that you have not known.
7 And some done now not of old time, whereof thou never heardest before they were brought to pass: that thou cannot say "I knew of them."
7 “They are created now and not long ago;And before today you have not heard them,So that you will not say, ‘Behold, I knew them.’
7 They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.
7 They have been created now, and not long ago;you have not heard of them before today,so you could not claim, ‘I already knew them!’
7 They are created now, and not long ago; you didn't hear them before today, so you cannot say, "Yes, I knew them.'
8 Moreover, there be some whereof thou hast neither heard nor know, neither have they been open unto thine ears afore time. For I know that thou wouldest maliciously offend, therefore have I called thee a transgressor, even from thy mother's womb.
8 “You have not (O)heard, you have not known.Even from long ago your ear has not been open,Because I knew that you would deal very treacherously; And you have been called a (d)(P)rebel from (e)birth.
8 Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb.
8 You have never heard; you have never known; For a long time your ears have not been open. For I knew that you were very treacherous, and were known as a rebel from birth.(G)
8 And neither had you heard, nor did you understand, nor did you open your ear long ago. Indeed, I knew that you would act very deceitfully, and they would call you a rebel from birth.
9 Nevertheless, for my name's sake, I have withdrawn my wrath, and for mine honour's sake I have overseen thee, so that I have not rooted thee out.
9 “(Q)For the sake of My name I (R)delay My wrath,And for My praise I restrain it for you,In order not to cut you off.
9 For my name's sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.
9 I will delay My anger for the honor of My name, and I will restrain Myself for your benefit and for My praise,so that you will not be destroyed.
9 I defer my anger for my name's sake, and as my first act I'm restraining it for you, so as not to cut you off.
10 Behold, I have purged thee, and not for money. I have chosen thee in the fire of poverty;
10 “Behold, I have refined you, but (S)not as silver;I have tested you in the (T)furnace of affliction.
10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
10 Look, I have refined you,(H) but not as silver;I have tested(c) you in the furnace of affliction.
10 Look, I have refined you, but not like silver; I have purified you in the furnace of affliction.
11 And that only for mine own sake, for I give mine honour to none other, that thou shouldest not despise me.
11 “(U)For My own sake, for My own sake, I will act;For how can My name be profaned? And My (V)glory I will not give to another.
11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
11 I will act for My own sake, indeed, My own,(I)for how can I(d) be defiled?I will not give My glory to another.(J)
11 For my own sake Yes, for my own sake! I'm doing it; indeed, how can I be profaned? Furthermore, I won't give my glory to another."
12 Hearken unto me O Jacob, and Israel whom I have called. I am even he that is, I am the first and the last.
12 “Listen to Me, O Jacob, even Israel (f)whom I called;(W)I am He, (X)I am the first, I am also the last.
12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
12 “Listen to Me, Jacob, and Israel, the one called by Me:I am He; I am the first,I am also the last.(K)
12 "Listen to these things, Jacob, and Israel, whom I have called. I am the One: I am the first, I am even the last.
13 My hand is the foundation of the earth, and my right hand spanneth over the heavens. As soon as I called them they were there.
13 “Surely My hand (Y)founded the earth,And My right hand spread out the heavens; When I (Z)call to them, they stand together.
13 Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.
13 My own hand founded the earth, and My right hand spread out the heavens;(L)when I summoned them, they stood up together.
13 Moreover, my hands laid the earth's foundation, and my right hand spread out the heavens. I call out to them, and they stand up together.
14 Gather you all together, and hearken: Which of yonder gods hath declared this? The LORD God hath a love unto him, and he shall perform his will against Babel and declare his power against the Chaldeans.
14 “(AA)Assemble, all of you, and listen!(AB)Who among them has declared these things? The Lord loves him; he will (AC)carry out His good pleasure on (AD)Babylon,And His arm will be against the Chaldeans.
14 All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The LORD hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.
14 All of you, assemble and listen!Who among the idols(e) has declared these things? The Lord loves him;(f)he will accomplish His will against Babylon,(M)and His arm will be against the Chaldeans.
14 Let all of them come together and listen: Who is there among them that could declare these things? "The LORD loves me, and he will accomplish my purpose against Babylon; his arm will be against the Chaldeans.
15 I myself alone have told you this before. Yea, I shall call him and bring him forth, and give him a prosperous journey.
15 “I, even I, have spoken; indeed I have (AE)called him,I have brought him, and He will make his ways successful.
15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.
15 I—I have spoken;yes, I have called him;(N)I have brought him,and he will succeed in his mission.(O)
15 I Yes, I! have spoken; indeed, I've called and I've brought him, and he will make his path successful.
16 Come nigh and hear this: have I spoken anything darkly since the beginning? When a thing beginneth, I am there. Wherefore the LORD God with his spirit hath sent me;
16 “(AF)Come near to Me, listen to this:From the first I have (AG)not spoken in secret,(AH)From the time it took place, I was there. And now (AI)the Lord (g)God has sent Me, and His Spirit.”
16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.
16 Approach Me and listen to this. From the beginning I have not spoken in secret;(P)from the time anything existed, I was there.”And now the Lord Godhas sent me and His Spirit.(Q)
16 Draw near to me, and listen to this: "From the beginning I haven't spoken in secret; at the time it happened, I was there.' And now the LORD God, and his Spirit, has sent me.
17 And thus sayeth the LORD God thine avenger, the holy one of Israel: I am the LORD thy God, which teach thee profitable things, and lead thee the way, that thou shouldest go.
17 Thus says the Lord, your (AJ)Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel,“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit,Who (AK)leads you in the way you should go.
17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.
17 This is what the Lord, your Redeemer,(R) the Holy One of Israel(S) says:I am Yahweh your God,who teaches you for your benefit, who leads you in the way you should go.
17 "This is what the LORD says, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you how to succeed, who directs you in the path by which you should go.
18 If thou wilt now regard my commandment, thy wealthiness shall be as the water stream: and thy righteousness as the waves flowing in the sea.
18 “If only you had (AL)paid attention to My commandments! Then your (h)(AM)well-being would have been like a river,And your (AN)righteousness like the waves of the sea.
18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:
18 If only you had paid attention to My commands. Then your peace would have been like a river,(T)and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.(U)
18 Now if only you had paid attention to my commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your success like the waves of the sea.
19 Thy seed shall be like as the sand in the sea, and the fruit of thy body, like the gravel stones thereof: Thy name shall not be rooted out, nor destroyed before me.
19 “Your (i)(AO)descendants would have been like the sand,And (j)your offspring like its grains;(AP)Their name would never be cut off or destroyed from My presence.”
19 Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.
19 Your descendants would have been as countless as the sand,(V)and the offspring of your body like its grains;their name would not be cut offor eliminated from My presence.
19 Your descendants would've been like the sand, and your offspring like its numberless grains. Their name wouldn't have been cut off or annihilated out of my reach.
20 Ye shall go away from Babylon, and escape the Chaldeans with a merry voice. This shall be spoken of, declared abroad, and go forth unto the end of the world: so that it shall be said, "The LORD hath defended his servant Jacob,
20 (AQ)Go forth from Babylon! Flee from the Chaldeans!Declare with the sound of (AR)joyful shouting, proclaim this,(AS)Send it out to the end of the earth;Say, “(AT)The Lord has redeemed His servant Jacob.”
20 Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
20 Leave Babylon, flee from the Chaldeans!Declare with a shout of joy, proclaim this, let it go out to the end of the earth;announce,“The Lord has redeemed His servant(W) Jacob!”
20 "Go out from Babylon, flee from the Chaldeans! With happy shouts, announce and proclaim this to the ends of the earth: Say, "The LORD has redeemed his servant Jacob!'
21 that they suffered no thirst, when they travailed in the wilderness. He clave the rocks asunder, and the water gushed out."
21 They did not (AU)thirst when He led them through the deserts. He (AV)made the water flow out of the rock for them;He split the rock and (AW)the water gushed forth.
21 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out.
21 They did not thirstwhen He led them through the deserts; He made water flow for them from the rock;(X)He split the rock, and water gushed out.
21 They didn't thirst when he led him through the desolate places. He made water gush from a rock for them; he split open the rock, and water gushed out.
