The Call Of Jeremiah

44 Now the word of the LORD came to me saying,

44 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

44 The word of the Lord came to me:

44 This message from the LORD came to me:

44 Then the word of the Lord came to me [Jeremiah], saying,

55 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations."

55 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

55 I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations.

55 "I knew you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart for me before you were born; I appointed you to be a prophet to the nations."

55 Before I formed you in the womb I knew [and] approved of you [as My chosen instrument], and before you were born I separated and set you apart, consecrating you; [and] I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.

66 Then I said, "Alas, Lord GOD! Behold, I do not know how to speak, Because I am a youth."

66 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

66 But I protested, "Oh no, Lord God ! Look, I don't know how to speak since I am [only] a youth."

66 I replied, "Ah, LORD God! Look, I don't know how to speak, because I'm only a young man."

66 Then said I, Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am only a youth.

77 But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am a youth,' Because everywhere I send you, you shall go, And all that I command you, you shall speak.

77 But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

77 Then the Lord said to me: Do not say: I am [only] a youth, for you will go to everyone I send you to and speak whatever I tell you.

77 Then the LORD told me, "Don't say, "I'm only a young man,' for you will go everywhere I send you, and you will speak everything I command you.

77 But the Lord said to me, Say not, I am only a youth; for you shall go to all to whom I shall send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.

88 "Do not be afraid of them, For I am with you to deliver you," declares the LORD.

88 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

88 Do not be afraid of anyone, for I will be with you to deliver you. [This is] the Lord's declaration.

88 Don't be afraid of them, because I am with you to deliver you," declares the LORD.

88 Be not afraid of them [their faces], for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.

99 Then the LORD stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me, "Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.

99 Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

99 Then the Lord reached out His hand, touched my mouth, and told me: Look, I have filled your mouth with My words.

99 The LORD stretched out his hand, touched my mouth, and then told me, "Look, I've put my words in your mouth.

99 Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.

1010 "See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms, To pluck up and to break down, To destroy and to overthrow, To build and to plant."

1010 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

1010 See, today I have set you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and demolish, to build and plant.

1010 See, today I've appointed you to prophesy about nations and kingdoms, to pull up and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant."

1010 See, I have this day appointed you to the oversight of the nations and of the kingdoms to root out and pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

Yahweh Confirms Jeremiah's Call

1111 The word of the LORD came to me saying, "What do you see, Jeremiah?" And I said, "I see a rod of an almond tree."

1111 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

1111 Then the word of the Lord came to me, asking, "What do you see, Jeremiah?" I replied, "I see a branch of an almond tree."

1111 This message from the LORD came to me, asking, "What do you see, Jeremiah?" I replied, "I see an almond branch."

1111 Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Jeremiah, what do you see? And I said, I see a branch or shoot of an almond tree [the emblem of alertness and activity, blossoming in late winter].

1212 Then the LORD said to me, "You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it."

1212 Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

1212 The Lord said to me, "You have seen correctly, for I watch over My word to accomplish it."

1212 The LORD told me, "You have observed well, because I'm watching over my message, to make sure it comes about."

1212 Then said the Lord to me, You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it.

1313 The word of the LORD came to me a second time saying, "What do you see?" And I said, "I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north."

1313 And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

1313 Again the word of the Lord came to me inquiring, "What do you see?" And I replied, "I see a boiling pot, its mouth tilted from the north [to the south]."

1313 This message from the LORD came to me a second time: "What do you see?" I replied, "I see a boiling pot, and its mouth is tilted away from the north."

1313 And the word of the Lord came to me the second time, saying, What do you see? And I said, I see a boiling pot, and the face of it is [tipped away] from the north [its mouth about to pour forth on the south, on Judea].

1414 Then the LORD said to me, "Out of the north the evil will break forth on all the inhabitants of the land.

1414 Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

1414 Then the Lord said to me, "Disaster will be poured out from the north on all who live in the land.

1414 Then the LORD told me, "From the north disaster will pour out on all who live in the land,

1414 Then the Lord said to me, Out of the north the evil [which the prophets had foretold as the result of national sin] shall disclose itself and break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

1515 "For, behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north," declares the LORD; "and they will come and they will set each one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls round about and against all the cities of Judah.

1515 For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

1515 Indeed, I am about to summon all the clans and kingdoms of the north." [This is]*The bracketed text has been added for clarity. the Lord's declaration. 1515 because I'm about to summon all the families and kingdoms from the north," declares the LORD. "They'll come and each one will set up his seat at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, against all of its surrounding walls, and against all of the towns of Judah.

1515 For, behold, I will call all the tribes of the kingdoms of the north, says the Lord; and they will come and set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, against all its walls round about, and against all the cities of Judah [as God's judicial act, a consequence of Judah's wickedness].

1616 "I will pronounce My judgments on them concerning all their wickedness, whereby they have forsaken Me and have offered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.

1616 And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

1616 "I will pronounce My judgments against them for all the evil they did when they abandoned Me to burn incense to other gods and to worship the works of their own hands.

1616 "I'll pronounce my judgments against them because of all their wickedness. They have forsaken me, they have burned incense to other gods, and they have bowed down in worship to the works of their own hands."

1616 And I will utter My judgments against them for all the wickedness of those who have forsaken Me, burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands [idols].

1717 "Now, gird up your loins and arise, and speak to them all which I command you Do not be dismayed before them, or I will dismay you before them.

1717 Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

1717 "Now, get ready. Stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them or I will cause you to cower before them.

1717 "As for you, get ready! Stand up and tell them everything that I've commanded you. Don't be frightened as you face them, or I'll frighten you right in front of them.

1717 But you [Jeremiah], gird up your loins! Arise and tell them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed and break down at the sight of their faces, lest I confound you before them and permit you to be overcome.

1818 "Now behold, I have made you today as a fortified city and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its princes, to its priests and to the people of the land.

1818 For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

1818 Today, I am the One who has made you a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land-against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the population.

1818 "As for me, today I'm making you a fortified city, an iron pillar, and a bronze wall against the whole land against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.

1818 For I, behold, I have made you this day a fortified city and an iron pillar and bronze walls against the whole land -- "against the [successive] kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land [giving you divine strength which no hostile power can overcome].

1919 "They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to deliver you," declares the LORD.

1919 And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.

1919 They will fight against you but never prevail over you, since I am with you to rescue you." [This is]*The bracketed text has been added for clarity. the Lord's declaration.
