The Call Of Jeremiah

4 The word of the LORD spake thus unto me,

4 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

4 Now the word of the Lord came to me saying,

4 The word of the Lord came to me:

4 This message from the LORD came to me:

5 "Before I fashioned thee in thy mother's womb, I did know thee: And before thou wast born, I sanctified thee and ordained thee, to be a Prophet unto the people."

5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

5 “Before I (H)formed you in the womb I knew you,And (I)before you were born I consecrated you;I have (J)appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

5 I chose you before I formed you in the womb;I set you apart before you were born.(F)I appointed you a prophet to the nations.(G)

5 "I knew you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart for me before you were born; I appointed you to be a prophet to the nations."

6 Then said I, "Oh LORD God, I cannot speak, for I am yet but young."

6 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

6 Then (K)I said, “Alas, Lord (a)God!Behold, I do not know how to speak,Because (L)I am a youth.”

6 But I protested, “Oh no, Lord, God! Look, I don’t know how to speak(H) since I am only a youth.”(I)

6 I replied, "Ah, LORD God! Look, I don't know how to speak, because I'm only a young man."

7 And the LORD answered me thus, "Say not so, 'I am too young': For thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee unto, and whatsoever I command thee, that shalt thou speak.

7 But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

7 But the Lord said to me,“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’(M)Because everywhere I send you, you shall go,And (N)all that I command you, you shall speak.

7 Then the Lord said to me:Do not say, “I am only a youth,”(J)for you will go to everyone I send you toand speak whatever I tell you.(K)

7 Then the LORD told me, "Don't say, "I'm only a young man,' for you will go everywhere I send you, and you will speak everything I command you.

8 Be not afraid of their faces, for I will be with thee, to deliver thee, sayeth the LORD."

8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

8 (O)Do not be afraid of them,For (P)I am with you to deliver you,” declares the Lord.

8 Do not be afraid of anyone,(L)for I will be with you to deliver you.(M)This is the Lord’s declaration.

8 Don't be afraid of them, because I am with you to deliver you," declares the LORD.

9 And with that, the LORD stretched out his hand, and touched my mouth, and said moreover unto me, "Behold, I put my words in thy mouth,

9 Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

9 Then the Lord stretched out His hand and (Q)touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me,“Behold, I have (R)put My words in your mouth.

9 Then the Lord reached out His hand, touched my mouth,(N) and told me:I have now filled your mouth with My words.(O)

9 The LORD stretched out his hand, touched my mouth, and then told me, "Look, I've put my words in your mouth.

10 and this day do I set thee over the people and kingdoms: that thou mayest root out, break off, destroy, and make waste; and that thou mayest build up and plant."

10 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

10 “See, (S)I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms,(T)To pluck up and to break down,To destroy and to overthrow,(U)To build and to plant.”

10 See, I have appointed you todayover nations and kingdomsto uproot and tear down,to destroy and demolish,(P)to build and plant.(Q)

10 See, today I've appointed you to prophesy about nations and kingdoms, to pull up and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant."

Yahweh Confirms Jeremiah's Call

11 After this, the LORD spake unto me saying, "Jeremiah, what seest thou?" And I said, "I see a waking rod."

11 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

11 The word of the Lord came to me saying, “What do you see, (V)Jeremiah?” And I said, “I see a rod of an (b)almond tree.”

11 Then the word of the Lord came to me, asking, “What do you see, Jeremiah?”(R)I replied, “I see a branch of an almond tree.”

11 This message from the LORD came to me, asking, "What do you see, Jeremiah?" I replied, "I see an almond branch."

12 Then said the LORD, "Thou hast seen right, for I will watch diligently upon my word, to perform it."

12 Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

12 Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for (W)I am (c)watching over My word to perform it.”

12 The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I watch over My word to accomplish it.”(S)

12 The LORD told me, "You have observed well, because I'm watching over my message, to make sure it comes about."

13 It happened afterward, that the LORD spake to me again, and said, "What seest thou? And I said: I do see a seething pot, looking out of the north hitherward."

13 And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

13 The word of the Lord came to me a second time saying, “(X)What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling (Y)pot, facing away from the north.”

13 Again the word of the Lord came to me inquiring, “What do you see?”And I replied, “I see a boiling pot,(T) its lip tilted from the north to the south.”

13 This message from the LORD came to me a second time: "What do you see?" I replied, "I see a boiling pot, and its mouth is tilted away from the north."

14 Then said the LORD unto me, "Out of the north shall come a plague upon all the dwellers of the land.

14 Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

14 Then the Lord said to me, “(Z)Out of the north the evil (d)will break forth on all the inhabitants of the land.

14 Then the Lord said to me, “Disaster will be poured out(a) from the north(U) on all who live in the land.

14 Then the LORD told me, "From the north disaster will pour out on all who live in the land,

15 For lo, I will call all the officers of the kingdoms of the north, sayeth the LORD. And they shall come, and every one shall set his seat in the gates of Jerusalem, and in all their walls round about and through all the cities of Judah.

15 For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

15 For, behold, I am calling (AA)all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares the Lord; “and they will come and they will (AB)set each one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls round about and against all the (AC)cities of Judah.

15 Indeed, I am about to summon all the clans and kingdoms of the north.”(V)This is the Lord’s declaration. They will come, and each king will set up his throneat the entrance to Jerusalem’s gates. They will attack all her surrounding wallsand all the other cities of Judah.

15 because I'm about to summon all the families and kingdoms from the north," declares the LORD. "They'll come and each one will set up his seat at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, against all of its surrounding walls, and against all of the towns of Judah.

16 And through them shall I declare my judgment, upon all the wickedness of those men that have forsaken me: that have offered unto strange gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

16 And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

16 I will (e)pronounce My judgments on them concerning all their wickedness, whereby they have (AD)forsaken Me and have (f)(AE)offered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the (AF)works of their own hands.

16 “I will pronounce My judgments against them for all the evil they did when they abandoned Me to burn incense to other gods and to worship the works of their own hands.(W)

16 "I'll pronounce my judgments against them because of all their wickedness. They have forsaken me, they have burned incense to other gods, and they have bowed down in worship to the works of their own hands."

17 And therefore gird up thy loins, arise, and tell them all that I give thee in commandment. Fear them not; I will not have thee to be afraid of them.

17 Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

17 Now, (AG)gird up your loins and arise, and speak to them all which I command you. (AH)Do not be dismayed before them, or I will dismay you before them.

17 “Now, get ready. Stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them(X) or I will cause you to cower before them.

17 "As for you, get ready! Stand up and tell them everything that I've commanded you. Don't be frightened as you face them, or I'll frighten you right in front of them.

18 For behold, this day do I make thee a strong fenced town, an iron pillar, and a wall of steel against the whole land; against the kings and mighty men of Judah; against the priests and people of the land.

18 For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

18 Now behold, I have made you today as a fortified city and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its princes, to its priests and to the people of the land.

18 Today, I am the One who has made you a fortified city,(Y) an iron pillar, and bronze walls(Z) against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the population.

18 "As for me, today I'm making you a fortified city, an iron pillar, and a bronze wall against the whole land against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.

19 They shall fight against thee, but they shall not be able to overcome thee: for I am with thee, to deliver thee, sayeth the LORD."

19 And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.

19 They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for (AI)I am with you to deliver you,” declares the Lord.

19 They will fight against you but never prevail over you,(AA) since I am with you to rescue you.”(AB)This is the Lord’s declaration.

19 They'll fight against you, but they won't prevail against you, because I am with you," declares the LORD, "to deliver you."
