22 Who is this who obscures [My] counsel with ignorant words?

22 "Who is this who keeps darkening my counsel without knowing what he's talking about?

22 Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

33 "Now gird up your loins like a man, And I will ask you, and you instruct Me!

33 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

33 Get ready to answer Me like a man; when I question you, you will inform Me.

33 Stand up like a man! I'll ask you some questions, and you give me some answers!"

33 Gird up now your loins like a man, and I will demand of you, and you declare to Me.

Yahweh Interrogates Job

44 "Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding,

44 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

44 Where were you when I established the earth? Tell [Me], if you have understanding.

44 "Where were you when I laid the foundation of my earth? Tell me, since you're so informed!

44 Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Declare to Me, if you have and know understanding.

55 Who set its measurements? Since you know. Or who stretched the line on it?

55 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

55 Who fixed its dimensions? Certainly you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?

55 Who set its measurement? Am I to assume you know? Who stretched a boundary line over it?

55 Who determined the measures of the earth, if you know? Or who stretched the measuring line upon it?

66 "On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone,

66 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

66 What supports its foundations? Or who laid its cornerstone

1010 And I placed boundaries on it And set a bolt and doors,

1010 And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

1010 when I determined its boundaries and put [its] bars and doors in place,

1010 when I proscribed a boundary for it, set in place bars and doors for it;

1010 And marked for it My appointed boundary and set bars and doors,

1111 And I said, 'Thus far you shall come, but no farther; And here shall your proud waves stop'?

1111 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

1111 when I declared: "You may come this far, but no farther; your proud waves stop here"?

1111 and said, "You may come only this far and no more. Your majestic waves will stop here.'?

1111 And said, Thus far shall you come and no farther; and here shall your proud waves be stayed?

1212 "Have you ever in your life commanded the morning, And caused the dawn to know its place,

1212 Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

1212 Have you ever in your life commanded the morning or assigned the dawn its place,

1212 "Have you ever commanded the morning at any time during your life? Do you know where the dawn lives,

1212 Have you commanded the morning since your days began and caused the dawn to know its place,

1313 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, And the wicked be shaken out of it?

1313 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

1313 so it may seize the edges of the earth and shake the wicked out of it?

1313 where it seizes the edge of the earth and shakes the wicked out of it?

1313 So that [light] may get hold of the corners of the earth and shake the wickedness [of night] out of it?

1414 "It is changed like clay under the seal; And they stand forth like a garment.

1414 It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

1414 The earth is changed as clay is by a seal; [its hills] stand out like [the folds of] a garment.

1414 Like clay is molded by a signet ring, the earth's hills and valleys then stand out like the colors of a garment.

1414 It is changed like clay into which a seal is pressed; and things stand out like a many-colored garment.

1515 "From the wicked their light is withheld, And the uplifted arm is broken.

1515 And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

1515 Light is withheld from the wicked, and the arm raised [in violence] is broken.

1515 Then from the wicked their light is withheld and their upraised arm is broken.

1616 "Have you entered into the springs of the sea Or walked in the recesses of the deep?

1616 Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

1616 "Have you been to the source of the sea and walked about in the recesses of the deepest ocean?

1717 "Have the gates of death been revealed to you, Or have you seen the gates of deep darkness?

1717 Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

2121 "You know, for you were born then, And the number of your days is great!

2121 Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

2121 Don't you know? You were already born; you have lived so long!

2121 You should know! After all, you had been born back then, so the number of your days is great!

2121 You must know, since you were born then! Or because you are so extremely old!

2222 "Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, Or have you seen the storehouses of the hail,

2222 Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

2222 Have you entered the [place] where the snow is stored? Or have you seen the storehouses of hail,

2222 "Have you entered the storehouses of the snow or seen where the hail is stored,

2222 Have you entered the treasuries of the snow, or have you seen the treasuries of the hail,

2323 Which I have reserved for the time of distress, For the day of war and battle?

2323 Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

2323 which I hold in reserve for times of trouble, for the day of warfare and battle?

2323 which I've reserved for the tribulation to come, for the day of battle and war?

2424 "Where is the way that the light is divided, Or the east wind scattered on the earth?

2424 What road leads to [the place] where light is dispersed? [Where is the source of] the east wind that spreads across the earth?

2424 Where is the lightning diffused or the east wind scattered around the earth?

2424 By what way is the light distributed, or the east wind spread over the earth?

2525 "Who has cleft a channel for the flood, Or a way for the thunderbolt,

2525 Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

2525 Who cuts a channel for the flooding rain or clears the way for lightning,

2525 "Who cuts canals for storm floods, and paths for the lightning and thunder,

2525 Who has prepared a channel for the torrents of rain, or a path for the thunderbolt,

2626 To bring rain on a land without people, On a desert without a man in it,

2626 To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

2626 to bring rain on an uninhabited land, [on] a desert with no human life,

2626 to bring rain upon a land without inhabitants, a desert in which no human beings live,

2626 To cause it to rain on the uninhabited land [and] on the desert where no man lives,

2727 To satisfy the waste and desolate land And to make the seeds of grass to sprout?

2727 To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

2828 "Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew?

2929 "From whose womb has come the ice? And the frost of heaven, who has given it birth?

2929 Whose womb brings forth the ice? Who gives birth to frost out of an empty sky,

3030 "Water becomes hard like stone, And the surface of the deep is imprisoned.

3030 The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

3030 when water becomes as hard as stone, and the surface of the watery depths is frozen?

3030 when water solidifies like stone and the surface of the deepest sea freezes?

3030 The waters are congealed like stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

3131 "Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades, Or loose the cords of Orion?

3131 Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

3131 Can you fasten the chains of the Pleiades or loosen the belt of Orion?

3131 "Can you bind the chains of Pleiades or loosen the cords of Orion?

3131 Can you bind the chains of [the cluster of stars called] Pleiades, or loose the cords of [the constellation] Orion?

3232 "Can you lead forth a constellation in its season, And guide the Bear with her satellites?

3232 Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

3232 Can you bring out the constellations in their season and lead the Bear and her cubs?

3232 Can you bring out constellations in their season? Can you guide the Bear with her cubs?

3232 Can you lead forth the signs of the zodiac in their season? Or can you guide [the stars of] the Bear with her young?

3333 "Do you know the ordinances of the heavens, Or fix their rule over the earth?

3333 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

3333 Do you know the laws of heaven? Can you impose its authority on earth?

3333 Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you regulate their authority over the earth?

3333 Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you establish their rule upon the earth?

3434 "Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, So that an abundance of water will cover you?

3434 Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

3434 Can you command the clouds so that a flood of water covers you?

3434 "Can you call out to the clouds, so that abundant water drenches you?

3434 Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, so that an abundance of waters may cover you?

3535 "Can you send forth lightnings that they may go And say to you, 'Here we are'?

3535 Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?

3535 Can you send out lightning bolts, and they go? Do they report to you: "Here we are"?

3535 Can you command the lightning, so that it goes forth and calls to you, "Look at us!'

3636 "Who has put wisdom in the innermost being Or given understanding to the mind?

3737 "Who can count the clouds by wisdom, Or tip the water jars of the heavens,

3737 Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

3737 Who has the wisdom to number the clouds? Or who can tilt the water jars of heaven

3737 Who has the wisdom to be able to count the clouds, or to empty the water jars of heaven,

3737 Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the [water] bottles of the heavens

3838 When the dust hardens into a mass And the clods stick together?

3838 When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?

3838 when the dust hardens like cast metal and the clods [of dirt] stick together?

3838 when dust dries into a mass and then breaks apart into clods?

3838 When [heat has caused] the dust to run into a mass and the clods to cleave fast together?

The Lioness

3939 "Can you hunt the prey for the lion, Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,

3939 Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

3939 Can you hunt prey for a lioness or satisfy the appetite of young lions

3939 "Can you hunt prey for the lioness to satisfy young lions

3939 Can you [Job] hunt the prey for the lion? Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions

4040 When they crouch in their dens And lie in wait in their lair?

4040 When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?

4040 when they crouch in their dens and lie in wait within their lairs?

4040 when they crouch in their dens and lie in ambush in their lairs?

4040 When they couch in their dens or lie in wait in their hiding place?

The Crow

4141 "Who prepares for the raven its nourishment When its young cry to God And wander about without food?

4141 Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.

4141 Who provides the raven's food when its young cry out to God and wander about for lack of food?

4141 Who prepares food for the raven, when its offspring cry out to God as they wander for lack of food?"
