1 After He had finished teaching all these things in the hearing of the people, He went into Capernaum.
1 Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.

2 Here the servant of a certain Captain, a man dear to his master, was ill and at the point of death;

6 So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to tell Jesus, "Sir, stop troubling yourself, because I'm not worthy to have you come under my roof.
7 and therefore I did not deem myself worthy to come to you. Only speak the word, and let my young man be cured.
7 for this reason I did not even consider myself worthy to come to You, but just (e)say the word, and my (f)servant will be healed.
7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
7 That is why I didn’t even consider myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be cured.(b)(C)

8 For I too am a man obedient to authority, and have soldiers under me; and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this or that,' and he does it."
8 For I also am a man placed under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”
8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

8 because I, too, am a man under authority and have soldiers under me. I say to one "Go' and he goes, to another "Come' and he comes, and to my servant "Do this' and he does it."
9 Jesus listened to the Captain's message and was astonished at him, and He turned and said to the crowd that followed Him, "I tell you that not even in Israel have I found faith like that."
9 Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled at him, and turned and said to the crowd that was following Him, “I say to you, (D)not even in Israel have I found such great faith.”

16 All were awe-struck, and they gave glory to God--some saying, "A Prophet, a great Prophet, has risen up among us." Others said, "God has not forgotten His People."

24 When John's messengers were gone, He proceeded to say to the multitude concerning John, "What did you go out into the Desert to gaze at? A reed waving in the wind?
24 When the messengers of John had left, He began to speak to the crowds about John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

27 This is the one about whom it is written,‘(P)Behold, I send My messenger (t)ahead of You,Who will prepare Your way before You.’
27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
27 This is the one it is written about:Look, I am sending My messengerahead of You;(i)he will prepare Your way before You.(T)(j)
27 This is the man about whom it is written, "See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.'
28 "I tell you that among all of women born there is not one greater than John. Yet one who is of lower rank in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.
28 I say to you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet he who is (u)least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
28 I tell you, among those born of women no one is greater than John,(k) but the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
28 I tell you, no one has ever been born who is greater than John. Yet even the least important person in the kingdom of God is greater than he."
29 And all the people, including the tax-gatherers, when they listened to him upheld the righteousness of God, by being baptized with John's baptism.
29 When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they (v)acknowledged (Q)God’s justice, (R)having been baptized with (S)the baptism of John.
29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
29 (And when all the people, including the tax collectors, heard this, they acknowledged God’s way of righteousness,(l) because they had been baptized with John’s baptism.(U)
29 By having been baptized with John's baptism, all the people who listened, including the tax collectors, acknowledged God's justice.
30 But the Pharisees and expounders of the Law have frustrated God's purpose as to their own lives, by refusing to be baptized.

31 "To what then shall I compare the men of the present generation, and what do they resemble?

32 They are like children sitting in the public square and calling out to one another, 'We have played the flute to you, and you have not danced: we have sung dirges, and you have not shown sorrow.'
32 They are like children who sit in the market place and call to one another, and they say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.’
32 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
37 And a woman in the town who was a sinner found out that Jesus was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house.(AA) She brought an alabaster jar of fragrant oil
37 There was a woman who was a notorious sinner in that city. When she learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's home, she took an alabaster jar of perfume
38 and, standing behind close to His feet, weeping, began to wet His feet with her tears; and with her hair she wiped the tears away again, while she lovingly kissed His feet and poured the perfume over them.
38 and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume.

39 Noticing this, the Pharisee, His host, said to himself, "This man, if he were really a Prophet, would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching him--and would know that she is an immoral woman."
39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were (X)a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a (ac)sinner.”
39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching Him—she’s a sinner!”(AC)
39 Now the Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this and told himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would have known who is touching him and what kind of woman she is. She's a sinner!"
40 In answer to his thoughts Jesus said to him, "Simon, I have a word to say to you." "Rabbi, say on," he replied.
40 And Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he (ad)replied, “Say it, Teacher.”
40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
40 Jesus replied to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.”“Teacher,” he said, “say it.”
40 Jesus told him, "Simon, I have something to ask you." "Teacher," he replied, "ask it."
41 "There were once two men in debt to one money-lender," said Jesus; "one owed him five hundred shillings and the other fifty.
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
41 "Two men were in debt to a moneylender. One owed him 500 denarii, and the other 50.
42 But neither of them could pay anything; so he freely forgave them both. Tell me, then, which of them will love him most?"
42 When they (Z)were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?”
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
42 Since they could not pay it back,(AE) he graciously forgave them both. So, which of them will love him more?”
42 When they couldn't pay it back, he generously canceled the debts for both of them. Now which of them will love him more?"
43 "I suppose," replied Simon, "the one to whom he forgave most." "You have judged rightly," Jesus rejoined.
43 Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.”
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
43 Simon answered, “I suppose the one he forgave more.”“You have judged correctly,” He told him.
43 Simon answered, "I suppose the one who had the larger debt canceled." Jesus told him, "You have answered correctly."
44 Then turning towards the woman He said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house: you gave me no water for my feet; but she has made my feet wet with her tears, and then wiped the tears away with her hair.
44 Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you (AA)gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
44 Turning to the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet,(AF) but she, with her tears, has washed My feet and wiped them with her hair.
44 Then, turning to the woman, he told Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You didn't give me any water for my feet, but this woman has washed my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair.
45 No kiss did you give me; but she from the moment I came in has not left off tenderly kissing my feet.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
45 You didn't give me a kiss, but this woman, from the moment I came in, has not stopped kissing my feet.
47 This is the reason why I tell you that her sins, her many sins, are forgiven--because she has loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little."
47 For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.”
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
47 Therefore I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; that’s why(n) she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little.”
47 So I'm telling you that her sins, as many as they are, have been forgiven, and that's why she has shown such great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven loves little."
49 Then the other guests began to say to themselves, "Who can this man be who even forgives sins?"
