1 And as soon as morning [came], [after] formulating a plan, the chief priests, with the elders and scribes and the whole Sanhedrin, tied up Jesus, led [him] away, and handed [him] over to Pilate.
1 (A)Early in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes and the whole (a)(B)Council, immediately held a consultation; and binding Jesus, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate.
1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.
1 As(A) soon as it was morning, the chief priests had a meeting with the elders,(B) scribes,(C) and the whole Sanhedrin.(D) After tying Jesus up, they led Him away and handed Him over to Pilate.(E)
1 As soon as it was morning, the high priests convened a meeting with the elders and scribes and the whole Council. They bound Jesus with chains, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate.
2 And Pilate asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" And he answered him [and] said, "You say [so]."
2 (C)Pilate questioned Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And He *answered him, “It is as you say.”
2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it.
2 Pilate asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" Jesus answered him, "You say so."
4 So Pilate asked him again, saying, "Do you not answer anything? See how many [charges] they are bringing against you!"
4 Then Pilate questioned Him again, saying, “Do You not answer? See how many charges they bring against You!”
4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.
4 Then Pilate(H) questioned Him again, “Are You not answering anything? Look how many things they are accusing You of!”
4 So Pilate asked him again, "Don't you have any answer? Look how many accusations they're bringing against you!"
6 Now at each feast he customarily released for them one prisoner whom they requested.
6 Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.
6 At(I) the festival(J) it was Pilate’s(K) custom to release for the people a prisoner they requested.
6 At every festival, Pilate would release any one prisoner whom the people requested.
7 And the one named Barabbas was imprisoned with the rebels who had committed murder in the rebellion.
7 The man named Barabbas had been imprisoned with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the insurrection.
7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

8 And the crowd came up [and] began to ask him to do as he customarily did for them.

8 And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.
8 The crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do for them as was his custom.

9 So Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you want me to release for you the king of the Jews?"

9 But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
9 Pilate answered them, "Do you want me to release the king of the Jews for you?"
10 (For he realized that the chief priests had handed him over because of envy.)
10 For he was aware that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.
10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.
10 because he knew that the high priests had handed him over due to jealousy.
11 But the chief priests incited the crowd so that he would release for them Barabbas instead.
11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.
11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd so that he would release Barabbas to them instead.
11 But the high priests stirred up the crowd to get him to release Barabbas for them instead.
12 So Pilate answered [and] said to them again, "Then what do you want me to do with [the one] whom you call the king of the Jews?"
12 Answering again, Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?”
12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?
12 Pilate asked them again, “Then what do you want me to do with the One you call the King of the Jews?”
12 So Pilate asked them again, "Then what should I do with the man you call "the King of the Jews'?"
14 And Pilate said to them, "Why? What evil has he done?" But they shouted even louder, "Crucify him!"
14 But Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify Him!”
14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.
14 Then Pilate said to them, “Why? What has He done wrong?”But they shouted, “Crucify Him!” all the more.
14 "Why?" Pilate asked them. "What has he done wrong?" But they shouted even louder, "Crucify him!"
15 So Pilate, [because he] wanted {to satisfy} the crowd, released for them Barabbas. And [after] he had Jesus flogged, he handed [him] over so that he could be crucified.
15 Wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus (G)scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.
15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
15 Then, willing to gratify the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. And after having Jesus flogged,(b) he handed Him over to be crucified.
15 So Pilate, wanting to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas for them, but he had Jesus whipped and handed over to be crucified.
16 So the soldiers led him away into the palace (that is, the governor's residence) and called together the whole cohort.

16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.

17 And they put a purple cloak on him, and [after] weaving a crown of thorns they placed [it] on him.

19 And they repeatedly struck him on the head with a reed, and were spitting on him, and {they knelt down} [and] did obeisance to him.

21 They forced a certain passer-by named Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, who happened to be coming in from the country, to carry Jesus' cross.
24 And they crucified him and divided his clothes among themselves [by] casting lots for them [to see] who should take what.
24 And they *crucified Him, and *(P)divided up His garments among themselves, casting (g)lots for them to decide (h)what each man should take.
24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.

29 save yourself [by] coming down from the cross!"
29 Those passing by were (m)hurling abuse at Him, (S)wagging their heads, and saying, “Ha! You who are going to (T)destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
29 Those(AM) who passed by were yelling insults(AN) at(g) Him, shaking their heads,(AO) and saying, “Ha! The One who would demolish the sanctuary and build it in three days,(AP)
29 save yourself and come down from the cross!"
30 In the same way also the chief priests, along with the scribes, were mocking [him] to one another, saying, "He saved others; he is not able to save himself!
30 save Yourself, and come down from the cross!”
30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross.
30 In the same way, the high priests, along with the scribes, were also making fun of him among themselves. They kept saying, "He saved others, but can't save himself!
31 Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe! Even those who were crucified with him were reviling him.
31 In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were mocking Him among themselves and saying, “(U)He saved others; (n)He cannot save Himself.
31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.
31 In the same way, the chief priests with the scribes(AR) were mocking Him to one another and saying, “He saved others; He cannot save Himself!
31 Let the Messiah, the king of Israel, come down from the cross now, since seeing is believing!" Even the men who were crucified with him kept insulting him.
32 And [when] the sixth hour came, darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.
32 Let this Christ, (V)the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” (W)Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him.
32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.
32 Let the Messiah,(AS) the King(AT) of Israel,(AU) come down now from the cross,(AV) so that we may see and believe.”(AW) Even those who were crucified with Him were taunting Him.
32 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.
33 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?" (which is translated, "My God, my God, {why} have you forsaken me?")
33 (X)When the (o)(Y)sixth hour came, darkness (p)fell over the whole land until the (q)(Z)ninth hour.
33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
33 When(AX) it was noon,(h) darkness came over the whole land(i) until three in the afternoon.(j)(AY)
33 At three o'clock, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eloi, eloi, lema sabachthani?" (which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?")
34 And some of the bystanders, [when they] heard [it], said, "Behold, he is summoning Elijah!"
34 At the (AA)ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “(AB)Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
34 And at three(k) Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lemá(l) sabachtháni?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”(AZ)(m)
34 When some of the people standing there heard this, they said, "Listen! He's calling for Elijah!"
35 And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put [it] on a reed, [and] gave [it] to him to drink, saying, "Leave [him] alone! Let us see if Elijah is coming to take him down."
35 When some of the bystanders heard it, they began saying, “Behold, He is calling for Elijah.”
35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.
35 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “Look, He’s calling for Elijah!”
35 So someone ran and soaked a sponge in some sour wine. Then he put it on a stick and offered Jesus a drink, saying, "Wait! Let's see if Elijah comes to take him down!"
36 But Jesus uttered a loud cry [and] expired.
36 Someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, “(r)Let us see whether Elijah will come to take Him down.”
36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.
36 Someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, fixed it on a reed, offered Him a drink,(BA) and said, “Let’s see if Elijah comes to take Him down!”
36 Then Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last.
38 And [when] the centurion who was standing opposite him saw that he expired like this, he said, "Truly this man was God's Son!"
38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.
38 When the centurion who stood facing Jesus saw how he had cried out and breathed his last, he said, "This man certainly was the Son of God!"
39 And there were also women observing from a distance, among whom [were] Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and Joses, and Salome,
39 (AE)When the centurion, who was standing (s)right in front of Him, saw (t)the way He breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was (u)the Son of God!”
39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

40 who used to follow him and serve him when he was in Galilee, and many other [women] who went up with him to Jerusalem.

40 They used to accompany him and care for him while he was in Galilee. Many other women who had come up to Jerusalem with him were there, too.
41 And [when it] was already evening, since it was the day of preparation (that is, the day before the Sabbath),
41 When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and (x)(AI)minister to Him; and there were many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.
41 (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.

41 It was the Day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath. Since it was already evening,
42 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the council who was also himself looking forward to the kingdom of God, came acting courageously [and] went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
42 (AJ)When evening had already come, because it was (AK)the preparation day, that is, the day before the Sabbath,
42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

42 Joseph of Arimathea, a highly respected member of the Council, who was waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
43 And Pilate was surprised that he was already dead, and summoning the centurion, asked him whether he had died already.
43 Joseph of Arimathea came, a (AL)prominent member of the Council, who himself was (AM)waiting for the kingdom of God; and he (AN)gathered up courage and went in before Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.
43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counseller, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.
43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Sanhedrin who was himself looking forward(BI) to the kingdom of God,(BJ) came and boldly went in to Pilate(BK) and asked for Jesus’ body.(BL)
43 Pilate was amazed to hear that Jesus had already died, so he summoned the centurion to ask him if he was in fact dead.
44 And [when he] learned of [it] from the centurion, he granted the corpse to Joseph.
44 Pilate wondered if He was dead by this time, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was already dead.
44 And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
44 Pilate was surprised that He was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him whether He had already died.
44 When he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he let Joseph have the corpse.
45 And [after] purchasing a linen cloth [and] taking him down, he wrapped [him] in the linen cloth and placed him in a tomb that had been cut from the rock. And he rolled a stone over the entrance of the tomb.
45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
45 When he found out from the centurion, he gave the corpse to Joseph.
45 Joseph bought some linen cloth, took the body down, wrapped it in the cloth, laid it in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.
46 Now Mary Magdalene and Mary the [mother] of Joses saw where he was placed.
46 Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth and laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.
46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.
46 After he bought some fine linen, he took Him down and wrapped Him in the linen. Then he placed Him in a tomb(BM) cut out of the rock, and rolled a stone(BN) against the entrance to the tomb.
46 Now Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph observed where the body had been laid.
