Felix then order'd a centurion to take Paul into his custody, without confining him so as to hinder his friends from waiting upon him.
And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
But as he continued to talk about uprightness, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became alarmed, and said, "For the present you may go, but when I find a good opportunity, I will send for you."
But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul's cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:

This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: Then came I with soldiers, and rescued him, and perceived that he was a Roman. And when I would have known the cause, wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council. There perceived I that he was accused of questions of their law: but was not guilty of any thing worthy of death, or of bonds. Farewell." Then the soldiers as it was commanded them, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris. On the morrow they left horsemen to go with him, and returned unto the castle. Which when they came to Caesarea, they delivered the epistle to the deputy, and presented Paul before him. When the deputy had read the letter, he asked of what country he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia, "I will hear thee," said he, "when thine accusers are come also." And commanded him to be kept in Herod's palace.
