Aaron's Sons

1 Now these are the generations of Aaron and Moses, in the day when the word of the Lord came to Moses on Mount Sinai.

1 (A)Now these are the records of the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the Lord spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.

1 These also are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that the LORD spake with Moses in mount Sinai.

1 These are the family records of Aaron and Moses at the time the Lord spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.(A)

1 This is a record of the genealogies of Aaron and Moses current as of the day on which the LORD addressed Moses on Mount Sinai.

2 These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the oldest, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

2 (B)These then are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

2 And these are the names of the sons of Aaron; Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

2 These are the names of Aaron’s sons: Nadab, the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

2 The sons of Aaron were Nadab the first-born, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar

3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests, on whom the holy oil was put, who were marked out as priests.

3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the (C)anointed priests, whom he (a)ordained to serve as priests.

3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests which were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest's office.

3 who were anointed priests and whom he consecrated as priests.

4 And Nadab and Abihu were put to death before the Lord when they made an offering of strange fire before the Lord, in the waste land of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar did the work of priests before Aaron their father.

4 (D)But Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they offered strange fire before the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests (b)in the lifetime of their father Aaron.

4 And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest's office in the sight of Aaron their father.

4 But Nadab and Abihu died in the Lord’s presence when they presented unauthorized fire(B) before the Lord in the Wilderness of Sinai, and they had no sons. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests under the direction of Aaron their father.(C)

The Assignment Of The Levites

5 And the Lord said to Moses,

5 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

5 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

5 The Lord spoke to Moses:

5 The LORD told Moses,

6 Make the tribe of Levi come near, and put them before Aaron the priest, to be his helpers,

6 (E)Bring the tribe of Levi near and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him.

6 Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him.

6 “Bring the tribe of Levi near and present them to Aaron the priest to assist him.

6 "Bring the tribe of Levi near and present them to Aaron the priest so they may serve him.

7 In order that they may be responsible to him and to all Israel for the care of the Tent of meeting, and to do the work of the House;

7 They shall perform the duties for (c)him and for the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the (F)service of the tabernacle.

7 And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation, to do the service of the tabernacle.

7 They are to perform duties for(a) him and the entire community before the tent of meeting by attending to the service of the tabernacle.

7 They are to take care of his needs and the needs of the whole congregation at the Tent of Meeting by performing duties at the tent.

8 And they will have the care of all the vessels of the Tent of meeting, and will do for the children of Israel all the necessary work of the House.

8 They shall also keep all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, along with the duties of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.

8 And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.

8 They are to take care of(b) all the furnishings of the tent of meeting(D) and perform duties for(c) the Israelites by attending to the service of the tabernacle.

8 They are to take charge of the utensils at the Tent of Meeting and meet the needs of the Israelis by performing duties on behalf of the tent.

9 Give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; so that they may be his without question from among the children of Israel.

9 You shall thus (G)give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the sons of Israel.

9 And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons: they are wholly given unto him out of the children of Israel.

9 Assign the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they have been assigned exclusively to him(d) from the Israelites.(E)

9 Assign the descendants of Levi to Aaron and his sons from among the Israelis.

10 And give orders that Aaron and his sons are to keep their place as priests; any strange person who comes near is to be put to death.

10 So you shall appoint Aaron and his sons that (H)they may keep their priesthood, but (I)the (d)layman who comes near shall be put to death.”

10 And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on their priest's office: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

10 You are to appoint Aaron and his sons to carry out their priestly responsibilities, but any unauthorized person who comes near the sanctuary must be put to death.”(F)

10 Appoint Aaron and his sons so that they are to take responsibility for their priesthood. Any unauthorized person who approaches it is to be put to death."

11 And the Lord said to Moses,

11 Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

11 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

11 The Lord spoke to Moses:

11 Later, the LORD told Moses,

12 See, I have taken the Levites out of the children of Israel to be mine in place of the first sons of the children of Israel;

12 “Now, behold, I (J)have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of every (K)firstborn, the first issue of the womb among the sons of Israel. So the Levites shall be Mine.

12 And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn that openeth the matrix among the children of Israel: therefore the Levites shall be mine;

12 “See, I have taken the Levites from the Israelites in place of every firstborn Israelite from the womb.(G) The Levites belong to Me,

12 "I'm taking the descendants of Levi for myself from among the Israelis in place of every first-born who opens the womb. The descendants of Levi belong to me

13 For all the first sons are mine; on the day when I put to death all the first sons in the land of Egypt, I took for myself every first male birth of man and beast. They are mine; I am the Lord.

13 For (L)all the firstborn are Mine; on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am the Lord.”

13 Because all the firstborn are mine; for on the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast: mine shall they be: I am the LORD.

13 because every firstborn belongs to Me. At the time I struck down every firstborn in the land of Egypt,(H) I consecrated every firstborn in Israel to Myself, both man and animal. They are Mine; I am Yahweh.”(I)

13 because all the first-born belong to me. When I destroyed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated all the first-born in Israel for myself from human beings to livestock. They belong to me, since I am the LORD."

14 The LORD also told Moses in the Sinai wilderness,

15 Let all the children of Levi be numbered by their families and their fathers' houses; let every male of a month old and over be numbered.

15 “Register the Levites by their ancestral houses and their clans. You are to register every male one month old or more.”

15 "Number the descendants of Levi according to their ancestral houses and tribes, numbering every male from a month old and above."

16 So Moses did as the Lord said, numbering them as he had been ordered.

16 So Moses numbered them according to the (f)word of the Lord, just as he had been commanded.

16 And Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD, as he was commanded.

40 Then the Lord said to Moses, “(AE)Number every firstborn male of the sons of Israel from a month old and upward, and (m)make a list of their names.

40 And the LORD said unto Moses, Number all the firstborn of the males of the children of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names.

40 The Lord told Moses: “Register every firstborn male of the Israelites(W) one month old or more, and list their names.

40 Later the LORD instructed Moses: "Number all the first-born males of Israel from a month old and above and list their names.

41 And give to me the Levites (I am the Lord) in place of the first sons of the children of Israel; and the cattle of the Levites in place of the first births among the cattle of the children of Israel.

41 You (AF)shall take the Levites for Me, I am the Lord, instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the cattle of the sons of Israel.”

41 And thou shalt take the Levites for me (I am the LORD) instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel; and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the children of Israel.

41 You are to take the Levites for Me—I am Yahweh—in place of every firstborn among the Israelites, and the Levites’ cattle in place of every firstborn among the Israelites’ cattle.”

41 Separate the descendants of Levi for me since I am the LORD in place of all the first-born sons of Israel. Also separate the livestock of the descendants of Levi in place of all the firstborn of the livestock of Israel."

The Levites Take The Place Of The First-Born Sons

42 So Moses had all the first sons among the children of Israel numbered, as the Lord said to him.

42 So Moses numbered all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, just as the Lord had commanded him;

42 And Moses numbered, as the LORD commanded him, all the firstborn among the children of Israel.

42 So Moses registered every firstborn among the Israelites, as the Lord commanded him.

42 So Moses numbered all the firstborn from the sons of Israel just as the LORD commanded him.

43 Every first son from a month old and over was numbered by name, and the number came to twenty-two thousand, two hundred and seventy-three.

43 and all the firstborn males by the number of names from a month old and upward, for their numbered men were (AG)22,273.

43 And all the firstborn males by the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those that were numbered of them, were twenty and two thousand two hundred and threescore and thirteen.

43 The total number of the firstborn males one month old or more listed by name was 22,273.

43 All the first-born males according to the list of their names from a month old and above numbered 22,273.

44 And the Lord said to Moses,

44 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

44 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

44 The Lord spoke to Moses again:

44 Then the LORD told Moses,

45 Take the Levites in place of all the first sons of the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites in place of their cattle; the Levites are to be mine; I am the Lord.

45 (AH)Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel and the cattle of the Levites. And the Levites shall be Mine; I am the Lord.

45 Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle; and the Levites shall be mine: I am the LORD.

45 “Take the Levites in place of every firstborn among the Israelites, and the Levites’ cattle in place of their cattle. The Levites belong to Me; I am Yahweh.(X)

45 "Separate the descendants of Levi in place of all the firstborn sons of Israel and the livestock of the descendants of Levi in place of their livestock. The descendants of Levi belong to me, since I am the LORD.

46 And the price you have to give for the two hundred and seventy-three first sons of the children of Israel which are in addition to the number of the Levites,

46 (AI)For the ransom of the 273 of the firstborn of the sons of Israel who are in excess beyond the Levites,

46 And for those that are to be redeemed of the two hundred and threescore and thirteen of the firstborn of the children of Israel, which are more than the Levites;

46 As the redemption price for the 273 firstborn Israelites who outnumber the Levites,

46 You are to pay a ransom for the 273 first-born Israelis who exceed the census number of the descendants of Levi,

47 Will be five shekels for every one, by the scale of the holy place (the shekel is twenty gerahs);

47 you shall take (AJ)five shekels apiece, per head; you shall take them in (AK)terms of the shekel of the sanctuary ((AL)the shekel is twenty (n)gerahs),

47 Thou shalt even take five shekels apiece by the poll, after the shekel of the sanctuary shalt thou take them: (the shekel is twenty gerahs:)

47 collect five shekels for each person, according to the standard sanctuary shekel—20 gerahs to the shekel.(Y)

47 so collect five shekels for each individual, denominated in shekels of the sanctuary, that is, the shekel that weighs 20 gerahs.

48 And this money, the price of those over the number of the Levites, is to be given to Aaron and his sons.

48 and give the money, the ransom of those who are in excess among them, to Aaron and to his sons.”

48 And thou shalt give the money, wherewith the odd number of them is to be redeemed, unto Aaron and to his sons.

48 Give the money to Aaron and his sons as the redemption price for those who are in excess among the Israelites.”

48 Then give the money meant for ransom of their excess to Aaron and his sons."

49 So Moses took the money, the price of those whose place had not been taken by the Levites;

49 So Moses took the ransom money from those who were in excess, beyond those ransomed by the Levites;

49 And Moses took the redemption money of them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Levites:

49 So Moses collected the redemption money from those in excess of the ones redeemed by the Levites.

49 So Moses took the ransom money to account for the difference in the total number of those redeemed by the descendants of Levi.

50 From the first sons of Israel he took it, a thousand, three hundred and sixty-five shekels, by the scale of the holy place;

50 from the firstborn of the sons of Israel he took the money in terms of the shekel of the sanctuary, 1,365.

50 Of the firstborn of the children of Israel took he the money; a thousand three hundred and threescore and five shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary:

50 He collected the money from the firstborn Israelites: 1,365 shekels(k) measured by the standard sanctuary shekel.

50 From the firstborn of the Israelis, Moses took money amounting to 1,365 shekels according to the shekel of the sanctuary.

51 And he gave the money to Aaron and his sons, as the Lord had said.

51 Then Moses gave the ransom money to Aaron and to his sons, at the (o)command of the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

51 And Moses gave the money of them that were redeemed unto Aaron and to his sons, according to the word of the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses.

51 He gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons in obedience to the Lord, just as the Lord commanded Moses.

51 Moses gave the ransom money to Aaron and his sons according to the LORD's instructions, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
