Proverbs 22

¹ A good name is more to be desired than great wealth, and to be respected is better than silver and gold.

⁵ Thorns and nets are in the way of the twisted: he who keeps watch over his soul will be far from them.

⁷ The man of wealth has rule over the poor, and he who gets into debt is a servant to his creditor.

¹³ The lazy person says, "There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the street!"

¹⁵ Foolish ways are deep-seated in the heart of a child, but the rod of punishment will send them far from him.

¹⁵ Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

¹⁷ Let your ear be bent down for hearing my words, and let your heart give thought to knowledge.

¹⁷ Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

^{17 (T)}Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise,And apply your mind to my knowledge;

¹⁷ Pay attention and listen to the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my teaching,

¹⁹ So that your faith may be in the Lord, I have made them clear to you this day, even to you.

¹⁹ That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

¹⁹ So that your ^(V)trust may be in the Lord,I have ^(k)taught you today, even you.

¹⁹ I have instructed you today—even you—so that your confidence may be in the Lord.

¹⁹ As a result, your trust will be in the LORD, that's why I'm teaching you today, even you.

²¹ To make you see how certain are true words, so that you may give a true answer to those who put questions to you?

²¹ That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

²¹ To make you ^(X)know the ^(m)certainty of the words of truthThat you may ^(n)(Y)correctly answer him who sent you?

²¹ in order to teach you true and reliable words,so that you may give a dependable report^(g)(T)to those who sent you?^(U)

²¹ to teach you true and reliable advice, so you can give truthful answers to those who sent you?

²³ For the Lord will give support to their cause, and take the life of those who take their goods.

²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

²³ For the Lord will ^(AB)plead their caseAnd ^(o)take the life of those who rob them.

²³ for the Lord will take up their case^(X)and will plunder those who plunder them.

²³ for the LORD will plead their case and ruin the lives of those who ruin them.

²⁵ For fear of learning his ways and making a net ready for your soul.

²⁵ Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

²⁵ Or you will ^(AD)learn his waysAnd ^(p)find a snare for yourself.

²⁵ or you will learn his ways^(Z)and entangle yourself in a snare.

²⁵ or you may learn his ways and find yourself caught in a trap.

²⁷ If you have nothing with which to make payment, he will take away your bed from under you.

²⁷ If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

²⁷ If you have no money to pay,even your bed will be taken from under you.^(AB)

²⁹ Have you seen a man who is expert in his business? he will take his place before kings; his place will not be among low persons.

²⁹ Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

²⁹ Do you see a man skilled in his work?He will ^(AH)stand before kings;He will not stand before obscure men.

²⁹ Do you see a man skilled in his work?He will stand in the presence of kings.He will not stand in the presence of unknown men.^(AD) >
