God Our Stronghold

1 Take me out of the hands of the cruel ones, O my God; keep me safe from those who come up against me.

1 {To the chief Musician, Altaschith, Michtam of David; when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him.} Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me.

1 Save me from my enemies, my God! Keep me safe from those who rise up against me.

2 Take me out of the power of the workers of evil, and keep me safe from the men of blood.

2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.

2 Deliver me from (C)those who do iniquityAnd save me from (D)men of bloodshed.

2 Deliver me from those who practice sin,and save me from men of bloodshed.(D)

2 Save me from those who practice evil; deliver me from bloodthirsty men.

3 For see, they are watching in secret for my soul; the strong have come together against me? but not because of my sin, or my evil-doing, O Lord.

3 For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.

3 For behold, they (E)have (e)set an ambush for my (f)life;(g)Fierce men (h)(F)launch an attack against me,(G)Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord,

3 Lord, look! They set an ambush for me.(E)Powerful men attack me,but not because of any sin or rebellion of mine.(F)

3 Look, they lie in ambush for my life; these violent men gather together against me, but not because of any transgression or sin of mine, LORD.

4 For no sin of mine they go quickly and get themselves ready; be awake and come to my help, and see.

4 They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold.

4 (i)(H)For no guilt of mine, they run and set themselves against me.(I)Arouse Yourself to (j)help me, and see!

4 For no fault of mine,they run and take up a position.Awake to help me, and take notice.(G)

4 Without any fault on my part, they rush together and prepare themselves. Get up! Come help me! Pay attention!

5 You, O Lord God of armies, are the God of Israel; come now and give punishment to the nations; have no mercy on any workers of deceit. (Selah.)

5 Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah.

5 You, (J)O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel,Awake to (k)(K)punish all the nations;(L)Do not be gracious to any who are treacherous in iniquity. (l)Selah.

5 Lord God of Hosts, You are the God of Israel,rise up to punish all the nations;do not show grace to any wicked traitors.(H)Selah

5 You, LORD God of the Heavenly Armies, God of Israel, stir yourself up to punish all the nations. Show no mercy to those wicked transgressors. Interlude

6 They come back in the evening; they make a noise like a dog, and go round the town.

7 See, hate is dropping from their lips; curses are on their tongues: they say, Who gives attention to it?

7 Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, doth hear?

7 Behold, they (O)belch forth with their mouth;(P)Swords are in their lips,For, they say, “(Q)Who hears?”

7 Look, they spew from their mouths—sharp words from(b) their lips.(J)“For who,” they say, “will hear?”(K)

7 Look what pours out of their mouths! They use their lips like swords, saying "Who will hear us?"

8 But you are laughing at them, O Lord; you will make sport of all the nations.

8 But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.

8 But You, O Lord, (R)laugh at them;You (S)scoff at all the nations.

8 But You laugh at them, Lord;You ridicule all the nations.(L)

8 But you, LORD, will laugh at them; you will mock all the nations.

9 O my strength, I will put my hope in you; because God is my strong tower.

9 Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.

9 Because of (m)his (T)strength I will watch for You,For God is my (U)stronghold.

9 I will keep watch for You, my(c) strength,because God is my stronghold.(M)

9 My Strength, I will watch for you, for God is my fortress.

10 The God of my mercy will go before me: God will let me see my desire effected on my haters.

10 The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon mine enemies.

10 (n)My God (V)in His lovingkindness will meet me;God will let me (W)look triumphantly upon (o)my foes.

10 My faithful God(d) will come to meet me;God will let me look down on my adversaries.(N)

10 My God of Gracious Love will meet me; God will enable me to see what happens to my enemies.

11 Put them not to death, for so my people will keep the memory of them: let them be sent in all directions by your power; make them low, O Lord our saviour.

11 Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield.

11 Do not slay them, (X)or my people will forget;(p)(Y)Scatter them by Your power, and bring them down,O Lord, (Z)our shield.

11 Do not kill them; otherwise, my people will forget.By Your power, make them homeless wanderers(O)and bring them down,Lord, our shield.(P)

11 Don't kill them! Otherwise, my people may forget. By your power make them stumble around; bring them down low, Lord, our Shield.

12 Because of the sin of their mouths and the word of their lips, let them even be taken in their pride; and for their curses and their deceit,

12 For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.

12 The sin of their mouth is the word on their lips. They will be caught in their own conceit; for they speak curses and lies.

13 Put an end to them in your wrath, put an end to them, so that they may not be seen again; let them see that God is ruling in Jacob and to the ends of the earth. (Selah.)

13 Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.

13 (s)(AD)Destroy them in wrath, (t)destroy them that they may be no more;That men may (AE)know that God (u)rules in JacobTo the ends of the earth. Selah.

16 But I will make songs of your power; yes, I will give cries of joy for your mercy in the morning; because you have been my strength and my high tower in the day of my trouble.

16 But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.

16 But as for me, I shall (AH)sing of Your strength;Yes, I shall (AI)joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the (AJ)morning,For You have been my (AK)strongholdAnd a (AL)refuge in the day of my distress.

16 But I will sing of Your strengthand will joyfully proclaimYour faithful love in the morning.(V)For You have been a stronghold for me,a refuge in my day of trouble.(W)

16 But I will sing of your power and in the morning I will shout for joy about your gracious love. For you have been a fortress for me; and a refuge when I am distressed.

17 To you, O my strength, will I make my song: because God is my high tower, even the God of my mercy.

17 Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.
