1 {To the chief Musician upon ShoshannimEduth, A Psalm of Asaph.} Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.

1 Shepherd of Israel, listen! The one who leads Joseph like a flock, the one enthroned on the cherubim, display your glory.

1 Hear us O Shepherd of Israel,You who lead Joseph like a flock;You who sit enthroned above the cherubim [of the ark of the covenant], shine forth!

2 Before (D)Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, (E)stir up Your powerAnd come to save us!

2 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come and save us.

2 before Ephraim,Benjamin, and Manasseh.(b)(E)Rally Your power and come to save us.(F)

2 Reveal your power before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, then come to our rescue.

2 Before (a)Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up Your powerAnd come to save us!

3 O God, (F)restore usAnd (G)cause Your face to shine upon us, (c)and we will be saved.

3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

4 O (H)Lord God of hosts,(I)How long will You (d)be angry with the prayer of Your people?

4 O LORD God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?

4 Lord God of Hosts,how long will You be angrywith Your people’s prayers?(H)

4 LORD God of the Heavenly Armies, when will your smoldering anger toward your people's prayers cease?

4 O Lord God of hosts,How long will You be angry with the prayers of Your people?

5 You have fed them with the (J)bread of tears,And You have made them to drink tears in (e)large measure.

5 Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.

5 You fed them the bread of tearsand gave them a full measure(c)of tears to drink.(I)

5 You fed them tears as their food, and caused them to drink a full measure of tears.

5 You have fed them the bread of tears,And You have made them drink [bitter] tears in abundance.

6 You make us (f)an object of contention (K)to our neighbors,And our enemies laugh among themselves.

6 Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.

6 You make us quarrel with our neighbors;our enemies make fun of us.(J)

6 You have set us at strife against our neighbors and our enemies deride us.

6 You make us an object of contention to our neighbors,And our enemies laugh [at our suffering] among themselves.

7 O God of hosts, restore usAnd cause Your face to shine upon us, (g)and we will be saved.

7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

7 Restore us, God of Hosts;look on us with favor, and we will be saved.(K)

7 God of the Heavenly Armies, restore us and show your favor, so we may be delivered.

7 Restore us, O God of hosts;And cause Your face to shine on us [with favor and approval], and we will be saved.

8 You removed a (L)vine from Egypt;You (M)drove out the (h)nations and (N)planted it.

8 Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.

8 You uprooted a vine from Egypt;You drove out the nations and planted it.(L)

8 You uprooted a vine from Egypt, and drove out nations to transplant it.

8 You uprooted a vine (Israel) from Egypt;You drove out the [Canaanite] nations and planted the vine [in Canaan].

9 You (O)cleared the ground before it,And it (P)took deep root and filled the land.

9 Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.

9 You cleared a place for it;it took root and filled the land.(M)

9 You cleared the ground so that its roots grew and filled the land.

9 You cleared away the ground before it,And it took deep root and filled the land.

10 The mountains were covered with its shadow,And (i)the cedars of God with its (Q)boughs.

10 The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.

11 It was sending out its branches (R)to the seaAnd its shoots to the River.

11 She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.

11 Its branches spread out to the Mediterranean Sea and its shoots to the Euphrates River.

11 Israel sent out its branches to the [Mediterranean] Sea,And its branches to the [Euphrates] River.(A)

12 Why have You (S)broken down its (j)hedges,So that all who pass that way pick its fruit?

12 Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?

12 Why have You broken down its wallsso that all who pass by pick its fruit?(P)

12 Why did you break down its walls so that those who pass by pluck its fruits?

12 Why have You broken down its (b)walls and hedges,So that all who pass by pick its fruit?

13 A boar from the forest (T)eats it awayAnd whatever moves in the field feeds on it.

13 The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.

13 The boar from the forest tears itand creatures of the field feed on it.(Q)

13 Wild boars of the forest gnaw at it, and creatures of the field feed on it.

13 A boar from the woods eats it away,And the insects of the field feed on it.

14 O God of hosts, (U)turn again now, we beseech You;(V)Look down from heaven and see, and take care of this vine,

14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;

14 Return, God of Hosts.(R)Look down from heaven and see;take care of this vine,

14 God of the Heavenly Armies, return! Look down from heaven and see. Show care toward this vine.

14 Turn again [in favor to us], O God of hosts;Look down from heaven and see, and take care of this vine,

15 Even the (k)(W)shoot which Your right hand has planted,And on the (l)son whom You have (m)strengthened for Yourself.

15 And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.

15 the root(g) Your right hand has planted,the shoot(h) that You made strong for Yourself.(S)

15 The root that your right hand planted, the shoot that you tended for yourself,

15 Even the stock which Your right hand has planted,And [look down on] the son that You have reared and strengthened for Yourself.

16 It is (X)burned with fire, it is cut down;They perish at the (Y)rebuke of Your countenance.

16 It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

16 It was cut down and burned up;(i)they(j) perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.(T)

16 was burned with fire, cut off, and destroyed on account of your rebuke.

16 It is burned with fire, it is cut down;They perish at the rebuke of Your [angry] appearance.

17 Let (Z)Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand,Upon the son of man whom You (AA)made strong for Yourself.

17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.

17 Let Your hand be with the man at Your right hand,with the son of manYou have made strong for Yourself.(U)

17 May you support the man at your right hand; the son of man whom you have raised for yourself.

17 Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand,Upon the son of man whom You have made strong for Yourself.

18 Then we shall not (AB)turn back from You;(AC)Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.

18 So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

18 Then we will not turn away from You;revive us, and we will call on Your name.(V)

18 Then we will not turn away from you. Restore us, so we can call upon your name.

18 Then we shall not turn back from You;Revive us and we will call on Your name.

19 O Lord God of hosts, (AD)restore us;Cause Your face to shine upon us, (n)and we will be saved.

19 Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

19 Restore us, Yahweh, the God of Hosts;(W)look on us with favor, and we will be saved.(X)
