Matthew 15:10-20 - Defilement From Within

¹⁰ And, having called the multitude near, He said to them, "Hear, and understand: ¹¹ Not that which enters into the mouth defiles the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth??his defiles the man."

¹² Then, His disciples, coming near, say to Him, "Knowest Thou that the Pharisees, having heard the saying, were made to stumble?"

¹³ But He, answering, said, "Every plant which My Heavenly Father did not plant shall be rooted up. ¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind guides; and if a blind man be guiding a blind man, both will fall into a pit."

¹⁵ And Peter, answering, said to Him, "Explain to us the parable."

¹⁶ And He said, "Are ye also even yet without understanding? ¹⁷ Do ye not perceive that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and is cast forth into the drain? ¹⁸ But the things that proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and these defile the man. ¹⁹ For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false-witnessings, blasphemies: ²⁰ these are the things which defile the man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man."

¹⁴ And, again calling the multitude, He said to them, "Hear Me, all of you, and understand: ¹⁵ there is nothing from without the man, that, entering into him, can defile him; but the things proceeding out of the man are those that defile the man." ¹⁶ OMITTED TEXT.

¹⁷ And, when He entered into the house from the multitude, His disciples asked of Him the parable. ¹⁸ And He saith to them, "Are ye too thus without understanding? Do ye not perceive that nothing, entering into a man from without, can defile him; ¹⁹ because it goes not into his heart, but into the belly, and passes out into the drain?" This He said, making all foods clean. ²⁰ And He said, "That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man. ²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, ²² covetings, wickednesses, deceit, wantonness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: ²³ all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man."
