What theologians speak of as the 'decrees of God,' and describe as one, immutable, eternal, all-embracing, free, etc., do not receive this designation in Scripture. The equivalents are to be sought for under such headings as Election, Predestination, Providence, Reprobate. In the English Version the term is frequently used in Esther, Ezra, Daniel, with different Heb. and Aramaic words, for royal decrees (in Da 6 RV 'interdict'; in Da 2:9 RV 'law,' elsewhere 'decree'). I will tell the decree; Yahweh said to me: "You are my son; today I have begotten you.
He established [the] earth on her foundations, [so that] it will not be moved forever and ever.
You set a boundary that they may not cross over, [so that] they would not return to cover the earth.
According to your loyal love preserve me alive, so that I may heed the testimony from your mouth. Forever, O Yahweh, your word {is settled} in heaven. read more. Your faithfulness [endures] {throughout all generations}. You have established [the] earth and it stands. By your ordinances they stand today, for all [are] your servants.
And he put them in place forever and ever, [by] a decree he gave that will not pass away.
{when he assigned} his limits to the sea, that waters shall not transgress his {command}, {when he marked} the foundations of the earth,
Do you not revere me?" {declares} Yahweh, "Do you not tremble {before me}? For I have placed [the] sand [as] a boundary for the sea, {as an everlasting limit}, and it cannot pass over it, and they rise and fall loudly, but they cannot prevail, and its waves roar, but they cannot pass over it.
[He is] the maker of [the] earth by his power, [who] created the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding he stretched out heaven.
for if you [do] not make the dream known to me, {your verdict is fixed}, and you have conspired to say lying and deceitful word to me until the {circumstances} will change. Therefore, tell me the dream, and I will know that you can tell me its explanation."
The sentence [is] by [the] decree of [the] watchers, and the decision [by] [the] command of [the] holy [ones], {in order that} the living will know that the Most High [is] sovereign over [the] kingdom of humankind, and {to whomever} he wills he gives it, and he [even] sets [the] humblest of men over it."
This [is] the explanation, O king, and it [is] a decree of the Most High that has come upon my lord the king:
Before the birth of the decree, the day flies away like chaff; before the fierce anger of Yahweh overtakes you; before the day of the anger of Yahweh overtakes you.
Now it happened that in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus to register all the empire.
