Crowns were made of them by Zechariah (Zec 6:9-15), at Jehovah's direction, and set on the high priest Joshua's head, as type of Messiah the King Priest who harmonizes in Himself the conflicting claims of justice as the King and love as the Father and Priest (Eph 2:13-17; 1:10). The crowns were deposited in the temple to the honour of the donors (compare Ac 10:4), a memorial of Joshua's coronation. The making of the crowns of gold from afar, i.e. from the Jews from Babylon, typified the return of the dispersed Israelites from afar (Isa 60:9) to the King of the Jews at Jerusalem, and secondarily the conversion of the Gentiles "far off" (Ac 2:39; Eph 2:12-17; Isa 60:10; 57:19; Zec 2:11; 8:22-23).
