a moral rather than an intellectual quality. To be "foolish" is to be godless (Ps 14:1; comp. Jg 19:23; 2Sa 13:13). True wisdom is a gift from God to those who ask it (Job 28:12-28; Pr 3:13-18; Ro 1:22; 16:27; 1Co 1:17-21; 2:6-8; Jas 1:5). "Wisdom" in Pr 1:20; 8:1; 9:1-5 may be regarded not as a mere personification of the attribute of wisdom, but as a divine person, "Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God" (1Co 1:24). In Mt 11:19 it is the personified principle of wisdom that is meant.
So the man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said, No, my brothers, do not this evil thing; this man has come into my house, and you are not to do him this wrong.
But where may wisdom be seen? and where is the resting-place of knowledge? Man has not seen the way to it, and it is not in the land of the living. read more. The deep waters say, It is not in me: and the sea says, It is not with me. Gold may not be given for it, or a weight of silver in payment for it. It may not be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the onyx of great price, or the sapphire. Gold and glass are not equal to it in price, and it may not be exchanged for jewels of the best gold. There is no need to say anything about coral or crystal; and the value of wisdom is greater than that of pearls. The topaz of Ethiopia is not equal to it, and it may not be valued with the best gold. From where then does wisdom come, and where is the resting-place of knowledge? For it is kept secret from the eyes of all living, unseen by the birds of the air. Destruction and Death say, We have only had word of it with our ears. God has knowledge of the way to it, and of its resting-place; For his eyes go to the ends of the earth, and he sees everything under heaven. When he made a weight for the wind, measuring out the waters; When he made a law for the rain, and a way for the thunder-flames; Then he saw it, and put it on record; he gave it its fixed form, searching it out completely. And he said to man, Truly the fear of the Lord is wisdom, and to keep from evil is the way to knowledge.
The foolish man has said in his heart, God will not do anything. They are unclean, they have done evil works; there is not one who does good.
Wisdom is crying out in the street; her voice is loud in the open places;
Happy is the man who makes discovery of wisdom, and he who gets knowledge. For trading in it is better than trading in silver, and its profit greater than bright gold. read more. She is of more value than jewels, and nothing for which you may have a desire is fair in comparison with her. Long life is in her right hand, and in her left are wealth and honour. Her ways are ways of delight, and all her goings are peace. She is a tree of life to all who take her in their hands, and happy is everyone who keeps her.
Is not wisdom crying out, and the voice of knowledge sounding?
Wisdom has made her house, putting up her seven pillars. She has put her fat beasts to death; her wine is mixed, her table is ready. read more. She has sent out her women-servants; her voice goes out to the highest places of the town, saying, Whoever is simple, let him come in here; and to him who has no sense, she says: Come, take of my bread, and of my wine which is mixed.
The Son of man has come feasting, and they say, See, a lover of food and wine, a friend of tax-farmers and sinners! And wisdom is judged to be right by her works.
Seeming to be wise, they were in fact foolish,
To the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be the glory for ever. So be it.
But to those of God's selection, Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power and the wisdom of God.
He is before all things, and in him all things have being. And he is the head of the body, the church: the starting point of all things, the first to come again from the dead; so that in all things he might have the chief place. read more. As, then, you took Christ Jesus the Lord, so go on in him, Rooted and based together in him, strong in the faith which the teaching gave you, giving praise to God at all times. read more. Take care that no one takes you away by force, through man's wisdom and deceit, going after the beliefs of men and the theories of the world, and not after Christ:
But if any man among you is without wisdom, let him make his request to God, who gives freely to all without an unkind word, and it will be given to him.
