Upon this his disciples came, and were surpriz'd at his conversing with the woman: yet none of them said, what did you ask her? or, why do you talk with her?

and, unto the woman, began to say - No longer, by reason of thy talk, do we believe; for, we ourselves, have heard, and know that, This One, is, in truth, the Saviour of the world.

Now many of his disciples, on hearing it, said, "This is hard to take in! Who can listen to talk like this?"

However, no body talk'd openly in favour of him, for fear of the Jews.

[Now] Nicodemus (being a leading Pharisee, and the one who went to talk to Jesus one night), said to them,

Then they asked Him, "Who are you anyway?" Jesus answered them, "Why do I even talk to you at all?

"Why do I even talk to you at all? I have a great deal to say about you and to condemn in you, yet he who sent me is truthful, and the things that I say to the world are things that I have learned from him."

Jesus talk'd to them in this figurative way: but they did not understand the meaning of his discourse.

The Jews answered, "We are not stoning you for doing anything good, but for your impious talk, and because you, a mere man, make yourself out to be God."

Now there was talk among the chief priests of putting Lazarus to death;

I will no more talk much with you, for the ruler of this world doth come, and in me he hath nothing;

When Jesus said this, one of the guards standing there struck Him [in the face], saying, "Is that any way to talk to the head priest?"

Pilate therefore hearing them talk at this rate, order'd Jesus to be brought forth, and then sat down in a place of Mosaic work on his tribunal, in Syriac call'd Gabbatha.
