hath not the scripture said, that the Messiah is to rise out of the family of David, and out of Bethlehem, the village where David was born?

God removed Saul, and rais'd up David to be their king, to whom he gave this testimonial, " I have found David the son of Jesse: he is a man most acceptable to me, and he will execute all my orders."

And Jesse the father of David the king, and David had Solomon by her that had been the wife of Urias.

So all the generations from Abraham to David, are fourteen generations: and from David to the Babylonian transmigration, are fourteen generations: and from the Babylonian transmigration unto Christ, are fourteen generations.

why then does David call him Lord, if He be David's son?

now since David himself calls him Lord, how can he be David's son? and the common people heard him with pleasure.

so Joseph departed from Nazareth in Galilee, and went into Judea to the city of David, called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and linage of David,

if then David stiles the Messiah his Lord, how can he be descended from David?
