Then he began to tell the people this parable: "A man planted a vineyard, leased it to vine-dressers, and went into another country for a long time. At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants, that they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed. He sent another servant; him also they beat and treated shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed. read more.
He sent a third; and they wounded him and cast him out. Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.' But when the tenants saw him, they reasoned among themselves and said, 'This is the heir. Let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.' So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them? He will come and destroy those tenants, and give the vineyard to others." When they heard this, they said, "May this never be!" But he looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone'? Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."


if we are being examined today for a good deed done to a cripple, as to how this man has been healed, be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this man stands before you healed. "Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. [And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."]

But he looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone'? Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."

What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, righteousness through faith; but Israel, who pursued the law of righteousness, has not attained that law. Why?
