Thematic Bible: Appetites

Thematic Bible

We remember the fish which we used to eat free in Egypt, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic,

A worker’s appetite works for him,
For his hunger urges him on.

With the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach will be satisfied;
He will be satisfied with the product of his lips.

And put a knife to your throat
If you are a man of great appetite.

“They struck me, but I did not become ill;
They beat me, but I did not know it.
When shall I awake?
I will seek another drink.”

All a man’s labor is for his mouth and yet the appetite is not satisfied.

It will be as when a hungry man dreams—
And behold, he is eating;
But when he awakens, his hunger is not satisfied,
Or as when a thirsty man dreams—
And behold, he is drinking,
But when he awakens, behold, he is faint
And his thirst is not quenched.
Thus the multitude of all the nations will be
Who wage war against Mount Zion.

“Come,” they say, “let us get wine, and let us drink heavily of strong drink;
And tomorrow will be like today, only more so.”

but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

And He said to His disciples, For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on.

When you sit down to dine with a ruler, Consider carefully what is before you, And put a knife to your throat If you are a man of great appetite.

Have you found honey? Eat only what you need,
That you not have it in excess and vomit it.
