but if she even depart, let her remain unmarried, or let her be reconciled to her husband; and that the husband leave not his wife. But to the rest say I, not the Lord: If any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she is pleased to dwell with him, let him not leave her.

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the assembly, and delivered Himself up for it, that He might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of the water in the word, that He might present to Himself the assembly, glorious, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it may be holy and without blemish. read more.
So ought husbands also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, as also Christ the assembly; because we are members of His body. For this cause, will a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh. This mystery is great; but I am speaking of Christ and of the assembly. Nevertheless, do ye also, severally, each one, so love his own wife, as himself; and let the wife see that she fear her husband.





And the Pharisees came to Him, tempting Him, and saying, "Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause" And He, answering, said, "Did you not read that He Who made them from the beginning made them 'male and female,' and said, 'For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh?" read more.
so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. What, therefore, God joined together, let not man put asunder." They say to Him, "Why, then, did Moses command to give her a bill of divorcement, and to put her away?" He saith to them, "Moses, in view of the hardness of your heart, permitted you to put away your wives; but from the beginning it has not been so. And I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery."
