Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?"

For I say unto you that, yet, that which is written must be performed in me: for those things which are written of me have an end."

Notwithstanding, I must be baptised with a baptism. And how am I pained till it be ended?

saying that the son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again."

and said unto them, "Thus is it written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise again from death the third day.

"When the son of man shall cometh in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the seat of his glory and before him shall be gathered all nations. And he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth the sheep from the goats. And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, and the goats on the left hand.

But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my father which is in heaven. Think not, that I am come to send peace into the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law: read more.
And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

I am come to send fire on earth: and what is my desire but that it were already kindled? Notwithstanding, I must be baptised with a baptism. And how am I pained till it be ended? "Suppose ye that I am come to send peace on earth? I tell you, nay: but rather debate. read more.
For henceforth there shall be five in one house divided: three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father. The mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother. The mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law."

Then said Jesus unto Peter, "Put up thy sword into the sheath: shall I not drink of the cup which my father hath given me?"

Which needeth not daily - as yonder high priests - to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's sins. For that did he at once for all, when he offered up himself:

Therefore doth my father love me: because I put my life from me, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me: but I put it away of myself. I have power to put it from me, and power I have to take it again. This commandment have I received of my father."

Therefore I will give him his part in many, and the spoil of the rich he shall divide: because he gave his soul to death, and was numbered with the trespassers, and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for transgressors.

for then must he have often suffered since the world began: But now in the end of the world, hath he appeared once, to put sin to flight, by the offering up of himself.

He went away once more, and prayed, saying, "O my father, if this cup cannot pass away from me, but that I drink of it, thy will be fulfilled."

Jesus answered, "I said unto you, I am he. If ye seek me, let these go their way."

And he said unto them, "I have inwardly desired to eat this Easter lamb with you before that I suffer.

The son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe be to that man, by whom the son of man shall be betrayed. It had been good for that man, if he had never been born."

Either thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my father, and he shall give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then should the scriptures be fulfilled? For so must it be."

And again he went away and prayed, and spake the same words.

And it followed, when the time was come that he should be received up, then he set his face to go to Jerusalem:

They answered him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said unto them, "I am he." Judas also which betrayed him, stood with them.
