and we toil, working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure;
Therefore we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions which you are enduring.
You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.read more.
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all this, taking up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and petition. And with this in view, keep alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, and also pray for me, that in the opening of my mouth, utterance may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren throughout the world.
I know you have persevered and have endured for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary.
Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay," says the Lord. No, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head."
For it is God's will that by doing right you should silence the ignorance of foolish men.
and keep a clear conscience, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
And not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.
Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they had been counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.
The crowd joined against them, and the magistrates tore the garments off them and ordered them to be beaten with rods. And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to guard them securely. Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I do my share for the sake of his body, which is the church, in filling up what is lacking in Christ's afflictions.
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials,

Because you have kept my command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said, "I will never leave you, nor will I forsake you."
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and petition. And with this in view, keep alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,
And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you that he will bring about justice for them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"
The end of all things is near; therefore be clear minded and sober for your prayers.
For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.
But our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
Then the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."
For this reason I also suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.
Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful even until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, clothed in white robes, and where have they come from?" I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.read more.
They will hunger no more, nor thirst anymore; the sun will not beat down on them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives even to the death.
Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around him. And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him,read more.
and when they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand. And they bowed the knee before him and mocked him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" And they spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head. And when they had mocked him, they took the robe off him, put his own clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him.
So Pilate, wanting to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he had scourged him, to be crucified. The soldiers led him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and they called together the whole battalion. And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and they twisted a crown of thorns and put it on him.read more.
And they began to salute him, "Hail, King of the Jews!" Then they struck him on the head with a reed and spat on him; and falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. And when they had mocked him, they took the purple robe off him, and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.
For what credit is it, if when you do wrong and are beaten for it you patiently endure? But if when you do right and suffer for it you patiently endure, you have favor with God. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. when he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he uttered no threats, but he trusted himself to him who judges justly.
But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled, but in your hearts reverence Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and respect; and keep a clear conscience, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.read more.
For it is better to suffer for doing right, if that should be God's will, than for doing wrong.
But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
