Then Pilate returned into the palace, and called Jesus, and said to him, Art thou the king of the Jews? Verse ConceptsJews, TheRoyal HousesChrist Is King Of Israel

And they accused him saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cesar, saying, that he himself is Christ a king. And Pilate asked him saying, Art thou the king of the Jews?


And Pilate wrote an inscription also, and put it on the cross: and the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Many of the Jews read this inscription; for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. Then said the chief priests to Pilate, Write not, the king of the Jews; but that he said, I am the king of the Jews. read more.

When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, to put him to death. And having bound him, they led him away and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governour.

And Jesus stood before the governour. And the governour questioned him, saying, Art thou the king of the Jews? And Jesus said to him, Thou sayest. And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. Then said Pilate to him, Hearest thou not, how many things they witness against thee? read more.
And he answered him to never a word, so that the governour marvelled greatly.

And straightway in the morning the chief priests consulted with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, and having bound Jesus, carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate. And Pilate asked him, Art thou the king of the Jews? And he answering said to him, Thou sayst it. And the chief priests accused him of many things; but he answered nothing. read more.
And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? Behold how many things they witness against thee. But Jesus answered nothing any more, so that Pilate marvelled.

And the whole multitude of them arose and led him to Pilate. And they accused him saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cesar, saying, that he himself is Christ a king. And Pilate asked him saying, Art thou the king of the Jews? read more.
And he answering him said, Thou sayest. Then said Pilate to the chief priests and the multitude, I find no fault in this man. But they were the more violent saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching through all Judea, beginning from Galilee, to this place.

Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas to the governor's palace, and it was early: and they went not into the palace themselves, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the passover. Pilate therefore went out to them, and said, What accusation do ye bring against this man? They answered and said to him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him to thee. read more.
Then said Pilate to them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews said to him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: So the saying of Jesus was fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die. Then Pilate returned into the palace, and called Jesus, and said to him, Art thou the king of the Jews? Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this of thyself? or did others tell it thee of me? Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thy own nation, even the chief priests, have delivered thee to me. What hast thou done? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have fought, that I might not be delivered to the Jews: but my kingdom is not from hence. Pilate said to him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest. I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I might bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice. Pilate saith to him, What is truth? And having said this, he went out again to the Jews, and saith to them, I find no fault in him.

And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. Then said Pilate to him, Hearest thou not, how many things they witness against thee? read more.
And he answered him to never a word, so that the governour marvelled greatly. Now at the feast the governour was wont to release to the people a prisoner, whom they would. And they had then a notorious prisoner, named Barabbas. Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, Whom will ye that I release to you? Barabbas? Or Jesus who is called Christ? For he knew that for envy they had delivered him. While he sat on the judgment-seat, his wife sent to him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man; for I have suffered many things to-day in a dream because of him. But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude, to ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. The governour answering said to them, Which of the two will ye that I release to you? They say, Barabbas. Pilate saith to them, What shall I do then with Jesus, who is called Christ? They all say to him, Let him be crucified. And the governour said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. Then Pilate, seeing, that he could prevail nothing, but rather a tumult was made, took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just man: see ye to it. Then all the people answering said, His blood be on us and on our children. Then released he Barabbas to them, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

And having read it, he asked, of what province he was? And being informed, that he was of Cilicia, I will give thee, said he, a thorough hearing, when thy accusers also are come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's palace.

For if indeed I have done wrong, and have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there is nothing of the things whereof these accuse me, no man can give me up to them. I appeal to Cesar. Then Festus, having conferred with the council answered, Hast thou appealed to Cesar? To Cesar shalt thou go.

Then Paul, after the governor had made a sign to him to speak, answered, Knowing thou hast been for several years a judge to this nation, I the more chearfully answer for myself: As thou mayst know, that it is but twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem. And they neither found me disputing with any man in the temple, nor making an insurrection among the people, either in the synagogues or in the city. read more.
Nor can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me. But this I confess unto thee, that after the way, which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: Having hope in God, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and of the unjust, which they themselves also expect. And for this cause do I exercise myself to have always a conscience void of offence toward God and toward man. Now after several years I came to bring alms to my nation and offerings. Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purifying in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult: Who ought to have been present before thee, and to accuse me, if they had any thing against me. Or let these themselves say, what crime they found in me, when I stood before the council, Unless it be concerning this one word, that I cried, standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead, I am called in question by you this day.

And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. Then said Pilate to him, Hearest thou not, how many things they witness against thee? read more.
And he answered him to never a word, so that the governour marvelled greatly.


And Pilate asked him, Art thou the king of the Jews? And he answering said to him, Thou sayst it. And the chief priests accused him of many things; but he answered nothing. And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? read more.
Behold how many things they witness against thee. But Jesus answered nothing any more, so that Pilate marvelled.

And hearing this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do? And Peter said, Repent, and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, whomsoever the Lord our God shall call. read more.
And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this perverse generation.

And platting a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a cane in his right-hand; and kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews. And spitting on him, they took the cane and smote him on the head.
