Do not put your trust in princes, nor in the son of man in whom there is no salvation. His breath goes forth; he returns to the earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.


Give us help against our foe; for vain is the help of man. Through God we shall do great things; for it is He who shall trample our enemies.

Give us help from trouble; for vain is the deliverance of man. Through God we shall do mighty things; for He shall trample our enemies.

Lo, you trust in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; on which, if a man lean on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.


And Egypt is a man, and not God; and their horses are flesh, and not Spirit. When Jehovah shall stretch out His hand, both he who helps shall fall, and he who is helped shall fall down, and they shall all cease together.




For Egypt helps vainly, and worthlessly. So I have cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still.





Everyone beware of his neighbor, and do not trust any brother! For every brother will supplant his neighbor, and will walk with slanders. And everyone will deceive his neighbor and will not speak the truth; they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and they weary themselves to commit iniquity. Your dwelling is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know Me, says Jehovah.

It is better to trust in Jehovah than to trust in man. It is better to trust in Jehovah than to trust in princes.


Woe is me! For I am like the gatherings of summer fruits, like the grape-gleanings of the vintage. There is no cluster to eat; my soul desires the first-ripe fruit. The pious has perished from the earth, and there is none upright among men. For they all lie in wait for blood; each one hunts his brother with a net. Both hands are on evil, to do it well. Why do you glory in your valley, your flowing valleys, O backsliding daughter? she trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come to me?
