promising them liberty, while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what one is overcome by this he has become enslaved.

Jesus answered them, "Verily, verily, I say to you, every one who commits sin is a slave of sin.

A temptation has not taken you, except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able, but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

It is needful that deacons, in like manner, be grave, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy of base gain;

not given to wine, not a striker, but gentle, not contentious, not a lover of money,

but, as it is, I wrote not to keep company, if anyone, called a brother, be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner??ith such a one, not even to eat.

For the bishop must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, not a striker, not greedy of base gain;

nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the Kingdom of God.

in which things ye also formerly walked, when ye were living in these things.

And bring us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.'

I speak after human fashion because of the weakness of your flesh; for, as ye presented your members subservient to uncleanness, and to iniquity unto iniquity; so now present your members subservient to righteousness unto holiness. For, when ye were slaves of sin, ye were free as to righteousness.

For many are walking, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ. whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who are thinking of earthly things.

If, therefore, the Son shall make you free, ye will be free indeed.
