And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast plenty of goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
that ye would not be sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience are inheriting the promises.
See that ye reject not Him that speaketh; for if they escaped not, who rejected him that gave forth divine oracles on earth, much less shall we, if we turn away from Him that speaketh from heaven:
It is commonly reported that there is lewdness among you, and such lewdness as is not named even amongst the heathens, that one should have his father's wife. And are ye puffed up, and have not rather grieved? that he who hath committed this fact might be expelled from among you?
And whoever heareth these words of mine, and performeth them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand:
But they slighted him, and went away, one to his field and another to his merchandize:
But Peter answered and said to Him, though they should all be offended in thee, yet will I never be offended.
And that servant, who knew his master's will, and did not prepare himself to do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes; but he that knew it not, and did things deserving stripes, shall be beaten with few: for to whomsoever much is given, of him will much be required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will demand the more.
And they all with one consent began to make excuses; the first said, I have bought a field, and I must go and see it, pray have me excused.
Ye are now full, ye are now rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I wish ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.
I wish thou wert cold or hot. So then, because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will cast thee out of my mouth: because thou sayst, I am rich, and wealthy, and have want of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove yourselves: do ye not know yourselves to be such that Jesus Christ is in you? unless ye are reprovable.
Wherefore let him, that thinks he standeth, take heed least he fall.
how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation? which began to be declared by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by them that heard Him;
