And again a multitude cometh together, so that they could not so much as eat bread. And his relations hearing of it went out to lay hold of him; for they said, He is beside himself.

And when they saw him, they were amazed; and his mother said to him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have been seeking thee in much distress.

Now the feast of the Jews, the feast of tabernacles, was at hand. His brothers therefore said to him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou art doing. And he was in the stern, asleep on the pillow; and they awake him, and say to him, Teacher, carest thou not that we are perishing?

From that time Jesus began to show to his disciples, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be put to death, and rise again on the third day. Then Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord! This shall not be to thee. But he turned and said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan! thou art my stumblingblock; for thy thoughts are not on the things of God, but on those of men.

And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be put to death, and after three days rise again; and he told them this plainly. And Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him. But he turning about and looking at his disciples, rebuked Peter, and saith, Get thee behind me, Satan! for thy thoughts are not on the things of God, but on those of men.

But Martha was cumbered about much serving; and she came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? Tell her therefore to help me.

Many therefore of his disciples, when they heard this, said, This teaching is hard; who can listen to it? Jesus therefore knew within himself that his disciples were murmuring about this, and said to them, Doth this offend you?

So he cometh to Simon Peter; who saith to him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said to him, What I do thou knowest not now, but thou wilt know hereafter. Peter saith to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.read more.

And it came to pass, as he was reclining at table in the house, lo! many publicans and sinners came and reclined with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, Why doth your teacher eat with the publicans and sinners?

And it happened that he was reclining at table in his house; and many publicans and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many, and scribes of the Pharisees were also following him. And when they saw that he was eating with the publicans and sinners, they said to his disciples, Doth he eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

And Levi made a great feast for him at his house, and there was a great company of publicans and others, who were reclining at table with them. And the Pharisees and their scribes murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with the publicans and sinners?

At that time Jesus went on the sabbath through the grainfields; and his disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the ears of grain, and to eat. But the Pharisees, seeing it, said to him, Lo! thy disciples are doing that which it is not lawful to do on the sabbath.

And it came to pass, that he was going through the grainfields on the sabbath, and his disciples began, as they went along, to pluck the ears of grain. And the Pharisees said to him, See, why are they doing on the sabbath that which is not lawful?

And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he was going through grainfields; and his disciples plucked the ears of grain, and ate them, rubbing them with their hands. And some of the Pharisees said, Why are ye doing that which it is not lawful to do on the sabbath?

And all the publicans and the sinners were drawing near to him, to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

The Jews therefore murmured about him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven; and they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, one whose father and mother we know? How is it then that this man saith, I have come down from heaven?

And lo! some of the scribes said within themselves, This man is blaspheming.

But there were some of the scribes sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, Why doth this man speak thus? He blasphemeth; who can forgive sins but God only?

And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this that speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?

The Jews said to him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If any one keep my word, he will never taste of death. Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets also died. Whom dost thou make thyself?

And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews from Asia, having seen him in the temple, stirred up the whole multitude, and laid hands on him, crying out, Men of Israel, help! This is the man that teacheth every one everywhere against the people, and the Law, and this place; and besides he even brought Greeks into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place.

And when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews rose up with one accord against Paul, and brought him before the judgmentseat, saying, This man persuadeth people to worship God contrary to the law.

For his letters, saith one, are weighty and strong; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
