And it came to pass, as He was reclining at table in the house, behold, many tax-collectors and sinners, having come, were reclining with Jesus and His disciples. And the Pharisees, seeing it, said to His disciples, Why is your Teacher eating with the tax-collectors and sinners?"
And it comes to pass that He reclines at table in his house, and many tax-collectors and sinners recline with Him and His disciples; for there were many, and they were following Him. And the scribes of the Pharisees, seeing that He was eating with the sinners and tax-collectors, said to His disciples, "Why doth He eat with the tax-collectors and sinners?"
And Levi made a great reception for Him in his house; and there was a great multitude of tax-collectors and of others who were reclining at table with them. And the Pharisees and their scribes were murmuring against the disciples, saying, "Why are ye eating and drinking with the tax-collectors and sinners?"
Now all the tax collectors and sinners were drawing near to Him to hear Him. And both the scribes and the Pharisees were murmuring, saying, "This Man receiveth sinners and eateth with them!"
for, before certain ones came from James, he was eating with the gentiles; but, when they came, he was withdrawing and separating himself, fearing those of the circumcision.
And He gave him a covenant of circumcision; and so he begat Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac, Jacob; and Jacob, the twelve patriarchs.
that ye abstain from idol-sacrifices, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which keeping yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well."
The Samaritan woman, therefore, says to Him, "How is it that Thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a Samaritan woman?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans).
These twelve Jesus sent forth, having charged them, saying, "Go not into any way of the gentiles, and enter not into a city of the Samaritans; but go ye rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
And it came to pass, when the days for receiving Him up were being completed, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem; and He sent forth messengers before His face; and, journeying onward, they entered into a village of Samaritans, so as to prepare for Him. And they did not receive Him, because His face was as if He were going to Jerusalem.

But He answered her not a word. And His disciples, coming near, were beseeching Him, saying, "Send her away; for she is crying after us!"read more.
But He, answering, said, "I was not sent, except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But she, coming, was worshiping Him, saying, "Lord, help me!" And He, answering, said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and cast it to the little dogs." But she said, "Yes, Lord; for even the little dogs eat of the crumbs falling from the master's table." Then Jesus, answering, said to her, "O woman, great is your faith! be it done to you as you wish." And her daughter was healed from that hour.
And, rising up, He went thence into the borders of Tyre and Sidon; and, entering into a house, He wished no one to know it. And He could not be hid. But straightway a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of Him, coming, fell down at His feet. And the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. And she kept asking Him to cast forth the demon out of her daughter.read more.
And He said to her, "Suffer the children first to be satisfied; for it is not good to take the children's bread, and cast it to the little dogs." But she answered, and says to Him, "Yes, Lord; even the little dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs." And He said to her, "Because of this word go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter." And, going away into her own house, she found the child laid upon the bed, and the demon gone out.
They led Jesus, therefore, from Caiaphas into the Praetorium; and it was early; and they themselves entered not into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the passover.
Now the apostles, and the brethren who were in Judaea, heard that the gentiles also received the word of God. And, when Peter went up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision were contending with him, saying, that he went in to men holding uncircumcision, and ate with them!read more.

But a voice answered a second time out of the heaven, 'What God cleansed, make not common.' And this took place thrice: and all were drawn up again into the heaven. And, behold, immediately there stood three men at the house in which we were, having been sent to me from Caesarea. And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. And these six brethren also went with me; and we entered into the man's house. And he told us how he saw the angel in his house, standing and saying, 'Send to Joppa, and call for Simon who is surnamed Peter, who will speak to you words, by which you shall be saved, and all your house.' And, as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as also on us at the beginning; and I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, 'John, indeed, immersed in water, but ye shall be immersed in the Holy Spirit.' If, therefore, God gave them the like gift, as to us who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?" And, having heard these things, they were silent, and glorified God, saying, "Then, to the gentiles also God gave repentance unto life."
But, when Cephas came to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was blameworthy; for, before certain ones came from James, he was eating with the gentiles; but, when they came, he was withdrawing and separating himself, fearing those of the circumcision. And the rest of the Jews also dissembled with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy.
And some, coming down from Judaea, were teaching the brethren, "Unless ye be circumcised after the custom of Moses, ye cannot be saved."
But there rose up some from the sect of the Pharisees, who believed, saying, "It is necessary to circumcise them, and to charge them to keep the law of Moses."
Behold, I, Paul, say to you, that, if ye be circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. And I testify again to every man who is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Ye were separated from Christ, whoever of you are being justified by law; ye fell out of grace;read more.
for we, in the Spirit, wait, by faith, for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything, nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love.
As many as wish to make a fair show in the flesh, these constrain you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
For there are many unruly men, vain-talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
And the heart-knowing God bore witness to them, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as to us:
for, indeed, in one Spirit were we all immersed into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all made to drink of one Spirit.
This only do I wish to learn of you: Did ye receive the Spirit by works of law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now being made perfect in the flesh? Did ye suffer so many things in vain? if, indeed, it be even in vain.read more.
Does He, therefore, Who was supplying to you the Spirit, and was working miracles among you, doing it by works of law, or by the hearing of faith?
We who are by nature Jews, and not sinners from among the gentiles, yet knowing that a man is not justified by works of law, but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed on Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of law; because by works of law no flesh shall be justified.
and He made no distinction between us and them, having purified their hearts by faith. Now, therefore, why do ye tempt God, that ye should put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were strong enough to bear? But we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same manner as also they."
For we reckon that a man is justified by faith, apart from works of law. Or is He the God of Jews only? Is He not of gentiles also! Yes, of gentiles also; if, indeed, God is One Who will justify the circumcision by faith, and the uncircumcision through faith.
Does this happiness, therefore, come upon the circumcision, or upon the uncircumcision also? For we say, "Faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness." How, then, was it reckoned? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while in uncircumcision; that he might be father of all who believe while in uncircumcision, that the righteousness might be reckoned to them;read more.
and father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision.
