as he promised of old by the lips of his prophets

who must be kept in heaven till the period of the great Restoration. Ages ago God spoke of this by the lips of his holy prophets;

which was not disclosed to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his sacred apostles and prophets by the Spirit),

to have you recollect the words spoken by the holy prophets beforehand and the command given by your apostles from the Lord and saviour.

He chose us in him ere the world was founded, to be consecrated and unblemished in his sight,

So when you see the appalling Horror spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing erect in the holy place (let the reader note this),

shouting, "To the rescue, men of Israel! Here is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against the People and the Law and this Place! And he has actually brought Greeks inside the temple and defiled this holy Place!"

Then the devil conveyed him to the holy city and, placing him on the pinnacle of the temple,

He replied, "Have you not read what David did when he and his men were hungry, how he went into the house of God, and there they ate the loaves of the Presence which neither he nor his men were allowed to eat, but only the priests?

He said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, he and his men? He went into the house of God (Abiathar was high priest then) and ate the loaves of the Presence which no one except the priests is allowed to eat, and also shared them with his followers."

But Jesus answered them, "And have you never read what David did when he and his men were hungry? He went into the house of God, took the loaves of the Presence and ate them, giving them to his men as well ??bread that no one is allowed to eat except the priests."

When the days for their purification in terms of the Mosaic law had elapsed, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord: every male that opens the womb must be considered consecrated to the Lord)
