And I saw when he had opened the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the whole moon became as blood, and the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a figtree casteth its untimely figs when shaken by a great wind; and the heaven passed off, as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places;

And the seventh poured out his vial upon the air; and there came forth a loud voice from the temple, from the throne, saying, It is done. And there followed lightnings, and voices, and thunders, and there was a great earthquake, such as there was not since there was a man upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell; and Babylon the great was remembered before God, to give to her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.read more.
And every island fled away, and no mountains were found;

And it came to pass, after we had torn ourselves from them, and had put to sea, that we came with a straight course to Cos, and the day following to Rhodes, and from thence to Patara.

And sailing slowly some days, and having with difficulty arrived over against Cnidus, the wind not permitting us to put in, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone; and coasting along it with difficulty we came to a place called Fair Havens, near which was the city Lasea. And much time having been spent, and the voyage being now dangerous, because the Fast had already gone by, Paul advised them,read more.
saying, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the lading and the ship, but also of our lives. But the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship more than what was spoken by Paul. And as the harbor was not well situated for wintering, the greater part advised to sail thence also, if by any means they might reach Phoenix, a harbor of Crete, looking toward the southwest and northwest, and there winter. And when a south wind blew gently, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor, and coasted along close by Crete. But not long after, there rushed against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon. And the ship being caught, and unable to face the wind, we gave up to it, and were driven along. And running under a certain small island called Clauda, we were hardly able to get possession of the boat; which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and fearing lest they should run into the Syrtis, they lowered the sail and so were driven. And as we were violently tempesttossed, the next day they began to lighten the vessel; and the third day we cast out with our own hands the movables of the ship. And as neither sun nor stars had appeared for many days, and no small tempest lay on us, thenceforward all hope that we should be saved was taken away. And after there had been much abstinence from food, Paul stood up in the midst of them and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened to me, and not have put to sea from Crete, nod thus brought upon yourselves this injury and loss. And now I exhort you to be of good cheer; for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. For there stood by me this night an angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, saying, Fear not, Paul! Thou must stand before Caesar; and lo, God hath given thee all those that sail with thee. Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer; for I believe God, that it will be just as it hath been told me. But we must be cast upon some island.

For this cause I left thee behind in Crete, that thou shouldst set in order the things that are wanting, and appoint elders in every city, as I directed thee;

And Joseph, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, when interpreted, Son of consolation,) a Levite, born in Cyprus,

Now they who were scattered abroad by the persecution that arose on account of Stephen traveled as far as Phenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to none but Jews. who was with the proconsul of the country, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. He, having called for Barnabas and Saul, desired to hear the word of God. But Elymas the magian (for so is his name interpreted) withstood them, seeking so turn away the proconsul from the faith. But Saul (who is also called Paul), filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his eyes on him and said, O full of all deceit, and of all mischief, son of the Devil, enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou wilt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and darkness; and going about he sought to find some who would lead him by the hand. Then the proconsul, when he saw what had taken place, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

And there arose a sharp contention, so that they parted from each other, and Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus.

There went with us also some of the disciples of Caesarea, bringing us to one Mnason, a Cyprian, an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.

and sailing thence, we came the following day over against Chios. And the next day we arrived at Samos; and having tarried at Trogyllium, we came the next day to Miletus.

I John, your brother, and companion in the affliction and kingdom and endurance in Jesus, was in the isle that is called Patmos, on account of the word of God, and the testimony of Jesus.

And setting sail from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothrace, and on the day following to Neapolis;

And landing at Syracuse, we stayed there three days;
