Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in wise: when Mary his mother was promised in marriage to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child by the Holy Ghost: but Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing publicly to expose her, was inclined to break off the contract with her privately; and when he was thinking on these things, behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph thou Son of David, scruple not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

to a virgin who was betrothed to a man, whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary.

and he knew her not, till she brought forth her Son the first-born, and he called his name Jesus.

But if any one think that he acts unbecomingly towards his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and that it ought to be so, let him do what he will; he doth not sin: let them marry. But he, that is stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath determined in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doth well. So that he, who giveth her in marriage, doth well; but he, that giveth her not in marriage, doth better.

And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, descending from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth with great joy at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore my joy is complete.

And Jesus said unto them, Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, while the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then they will fast.

And Jesus said unto them, Can the bridemen fast, when the bridegroom is with them? while the bridegroom is with them, they cannot fast:

And He said unto them, Can ye make those of the bride-chamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?

Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom: and five of them were wise, and five were foolish. The foolish ones took their lamps, and took no oil with them:read more.
but the wise took oil in their vessels as well as in their lamps. Now while the bridegroom stayed, they were all drowsy and fell asleep: and in the middle of the night there was a cry, The bridegroom is coming, go out to meet him. Then all the virgins rose up and trimmed their lamps: and the foolish ones said to the wise, Give us of your oil, for our lamps are going out: but the wise answered them, saying, Least there should not be enough for us and you, go rather to them that sell it, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and they that were ready went in with him to the wedding-feast, and then the door was shut.

saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who made a wedding-feast for his son;

And he said unto me, Write, Happy they who are invited to the marriage-supper of the Lamb. And he said unto me, These are the true words of God.

and sent his servants to call those that were invited to the wedding: and they would not come. Then he sent other servants, saying, Tell them that are invited, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready; come to the wedding.

But they slighted him, and went away, one to his field and another to his merchandize: and others seized his servants, and shamefully abused them, and slew them. And when the king heard of it, he was highly provoked, and sent his troops, and destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city.

And they all with one consent began to make excuses; the first said, I have bought a field, and I must go and see it, pray have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and am going to try them, pray have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.read more.
So the servant came and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go directly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the lame, and the blind.

But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man that had not put on a wedding-garment, and saith to him, Friend, how camest thou in here without a wedding-garment? and he was struck speechless.
