Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among whom the Holy Spirit has appointed you as overseers, to shepherd the church of God, which He purchased with His own blood.
shepherd God's flock among you, not overseeing out of compulsion but freely, according to God's [will]; not for the money but eagerly;
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.
Now I implore you, brothers, watch out for those who cause dissensions and pitfalls contrary to the doctrine you have learned. Avoid them;
An overseer, therefore, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, self-controlled, sensible, respectable, hospitable, an able teacher,
And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
Be conscientious about yourself and your teaching; persevere in these things, for by doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers.
Now we ask you, brothers, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.
The elders who are good leaders should be considered worthy of an ample honorarium, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.
Brothers, you know the household of Stephanas: they are the firstfruits of Achaia and have devoted themselves to serving the saints. I urge you also to submit to such people, and to everyone who works and labors with them.
Remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they offer, for the worker is worthy of his wages. Don't be moving from house to house.
The one who is taught the message must share his goods with the teacher.
Now I implore you, brothers, through the Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit, to agonize together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf:
Therefore, welcome him in the Lord with all joy and hold men like him in honor, because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up what was lacking in your ministry to me.
and though my physical condition was a trial for you, you did not despise or reject me. On the contrary, you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus [Himself].
Remember your leaders who have spoken God's word to you. As you carefully observe the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith.
According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts: If prophecy, use it according to the standard of faith; if service, in service; if teaching, in teaching; if exhorting, in exhortation; giving, with generosity; leading, with diligence; showing mercy, with cheerfulness.
Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are different activities, but the same God is active in everyone and everything.read more.
A manifestation of the Spirit is given to each person to produce what is beneficial: to one is given a message of wisdom through the Spirit, to another, a message of knowledge by the same Spirit, to another, faith by the same Spirit, to another, gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another, the performing of miracles, to another, prophecy, to another, distinguishing between spirits, to another, different kinds of languages, to another, interpretation of languages. But one and the same Spirit is active in all these, distributing to each one as He wills.
Now grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of the Messiah's gift.
For you are called to freedom, brothers; only don't use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love.
Show family affection to one another with brotherly love. Outdo one another in showing honor.
Do not owe anyone anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Therefore, God's chosen ones, holy and loved, put on heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, accepting one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so also you must [forgive]. Above all, [put on] love-the perfect bond of unity.
And may the Lord cause you to increase and overflow with love for one another and for everyone, just as we also do for you.
Let brotherly love continue.
By obedience to the truth, having purified yourselves for sincere love of the brothers, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,
Now this is His command: that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another as He commanded us.
with all humility and gentleness, with patience, accepting one another in love,
Likewise, you younger men, be subject to the elders. And all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
And we exhort you, brothers: warn those who are lazy, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
Therefore accept one another, just as the Messiah also accepted you, to the glory of God.
