This then I exhort thee first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings he made for all men; particularly for kings, and all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all piety and virtue. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour:
But if any widow have children or grandchildren, let these learn first to shew piety at home, and to make suitable returns to their parents: for this is becoming, and acceptable in the sight of God.
For do I now persuade you to obey men or God? Or do I seek to please men? if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
but as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who trieth our hearts.
but in righteousness and peace, and joy in the holy Ghost: for he, that in these serveth Christ, is acceptable to God, and approved by men.
whereas without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that cometh to God must believe, that He is, and is the rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
And indeed I have it all, and now abound: I am fully supplied, having received of Epaphroditus the things sent by you, a fragrant odor, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.
But to do good and to communicate forget not; for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
Now the God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work, to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
