And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that country; and he began to be in want.
Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a king, who was minded to settle accounts with his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. And as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
I have shewed you all things, that thus labouring ye ought to help the infirm, and to remember the word of the Lord Jesus, which he himself said, It is happier to give than to receive.
Behold the hire of your labourers who have reaped your fields, which is kept back by you, crieth: and the cries of them who have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabbaoth.
And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores;
pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a collection for the poor of the saints that are in Jerusalem.
And Jesus saith to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
And the steward said in himself, What shall I do? For my lord taketh away the stewardship from me. I cannot dig, to beg I am ashamed.
For they all did cast in of their abundance: but she of her penury did cast in all that she had, even her whole living.
For all these have of their abundance cast into the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.
That in a great trial of affliction, their overflowing joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality:
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom, which he hath promised to them that love him?
I know thy affliction and poverty, (but thou art rich) and the reviling of those who say they are Jews and are not, but a synagogue of Satan.
For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
Jesus saith to him, If thou desirest to be perfect, go, sell what thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. But the young man, hearing that saying, went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions.
For ye sympathized with my bonds, and received with joy the spoiling of your goods, knowing that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.
And though I give all my goods to feed the poor, and deliver up my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing.
As sorrowing, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing all things.
